I'm not worried about fixing the post office. I'm worried about letting the post office control the election, which is exactly what will happen if voting by mail becomes the norm. Voting should be done in person and with a legal ID.

Why does the usps need more $$$ when mail volume has decreased steadily?

The U.S. Postal Service Needs A ‘Brexit’ From Government
June 30, 2016 By Ramona Tausz
    https://thefederalist.com/2016/06/30/the-u-s-postal-service-needs-a-brexit-from-government/

Privatization is the answer for saving the U.S. Postal Service from the financial crisis it faces in the digital age, libertarians declared at a lecture sponsored by the Cato Institute yesterday. Mail volume has decreased dramatically, spelling disaster for a government corporation technically self-funded by postage revenue.

“The postal service is like the Hindenburg,” said James Gattuso, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation. “It’s hovering over New Jersey, it’s in trouble, and our job is to keep it from falling on the towns and villages below.”

According to Gattuso, first-class mail is down 40 percent since 2007, simple correspondence is down 80 percent since 1987, and holiday cards are down 30 percent since 2012.

The postal service also lacks needed oversight due to a managerial crisis: what should be an 11-member board has been reduced to one postmaster general, one governor, and a deputy postmaster general, noted Kevin Kosar, a senior fellow at the R Street Institute.

The lowest-volume 4,000 post office locations in the United States only average four customers a day, added Chris Edwards, director of tax policy studies at Cato.

“It’s crazy—they ought to be closed,” he said. “But because the USPS is a government-owned entity, Congress micromanages and prevents those sorts of rational business decisions.

I live in Florida and have been voting by mail for over a decade. It gives me more time to examine the local issues and amendments prior to casting a ballot.
Here's why it works in Florida. You have to request it in advance. You also have to sign it and your signature is checked against what is on file. It also has to be in the election office by the close of the polls, no questions asked. It also works because the postal service is not overwhelmed with a mass mail out AND it has to be requested in advance by currently registered and active voters.. Don't argue that the postal service won't mess it up, they already do that all the time. A 3-4% error rate can change election outcomes.

The issue here is mailing out ballots unsolicited to any and all voters on the rolls and not requiring signature on a voter affidavit.
Rolls that haven't been cleaned up in decades. People that moved 20 years ago will get ballots, dead people will get ballots. people that have moved could get a ballot from every locale they've ever registered. If they are not forwarded, they can be intercepted and fraudulently filled out. Dead people ballots can be filled out by relatives.
Illegal aliens are registered to vote in some states again illegal the key word.
Every change the Democrats want in the name of vote suppression exponentially increases the opportunity for fraud. Fraud opportunities they have proven they will use. Think it's a coincidence they want all churches and schools closed, it's where the polling places are.

My apologies for calling you an uncalled for name, but I get sick and tired of people using semantics as an excuse in this debate.

Absentee Vote - MUST be requested. [for most states that is all, for some there must be a valid excuse to request]

Mail-in Vote. There are only FOUR states that currently do it, HA, CO, OR and NV. WA has a modified Absentee Vote where once requested, you are on the list to receive an absentee vote every election. The difference. Mail in ballots are NOT requested.

I don’t give a rats ass what they call it in this or that state. The TWO processes are different. Requesting a vote necessitates an audit of the voter. A blanket mail out does not!

LASTLY ... each STATE has the right to determine how they vote, and thus, this National Bull Shit being pulled by the two most dishonest politicians on the planet, Nancy Pelosi and Church U Schumer, to make it such that a federal mandate makes all states do mail-in vote, ala HA, CO, OR, NV style is a ploy to harvest votes, via the process I outlined, eliminating signature verification and allowing handling by someone other than the voter .... code for, our ground game ban of crooks are going to go out and collect as many votes as they can and fill them out for the candidates of the Democrats choice.

If you didn’t hate Trump, you’d oppose this. If Trump was suggesting it, you’d oppose this. And YOU KNOW IT!

There are too many hackers who are too good at what they do for there not to be fraudulent voting.

    Yes, and they mostly Democrats.

The Democrats are proposing a way them to do the Broward County all over again, but this time, no signature verification, and no pre audited request, and eliminating that the idiots they had punch the “second hole” in 2000 never touch the ballots. ... “just sign here ma’am, we’ll do the rest for you!” It will look as legal as any other ballot, but the person actually will NOT be the one voting.

I remember back in the day, the postal service was the money making branch of the federal govt. They would always go to the usps and rob them for pet projects. Then came along UPS, Fedex, and now Amazon delivery is going to wipe them all out!.

Amen. You got that right. I have been voting via absentee ballot forever. First in the military, then for the reasons stated above.

Plus, it keeps me away from the lines with so many people who always have these multi-colored sheets of paper telling them how to vote. They hand them out at certain churches the Sunday before election. Mindless slugs.

Edit: I have checked and double checked that my absentee ballot is all set. It is.
