IMO, yes. As example, this isn't the first time a school has self-reported a violation and the NCAA has extended the probation window. We had a b-ball coach who was offered money from two boosters from TX for a recruit, it was self-reported, and like OU the NCAA extended the window for two years.

Too funny. At USC, we refer to Karl Dorrell as Radio. Nothing to call VY but winner.

    from the okc paper...

if anyone would know that, it would be OU. they have been perfecting the art of deliberate violations for years. :hihi:

I heard that the NCAA has taken under consideration that USC not be allowed to run the school promo halftime commercial for 1 game next year because of the Reggie Bush situation.

Really, what would be an excellent punishment would be to forbid the coaches from holding any camps for x number of years. Coaches lose income, can't evaluate talent on campus and show off their facilities. It would make recruiting much more difficult and have more impact than losing a scholarship or two.
  5. Re: ESPN is reporting the NCAA to announce possible sanctions against OU today... (l

for those that say the punishment was too harsh because OU discovered and took care of these incidents on their own, and that they self reported, yada yada.

let's not forget, it was an employee at the dealership that was not a friend to the ou program that discovered the wrong doings of bomar and quinn. it was not due to the diligence of ou. if memory serves me right that person made it clear they would report their evidence to the ncaa if needed, and it has long been questioned if quinn and bomar were the only two players "employed" by big red. this is also the same dealership that let peterson "test drive" a car for several months. but i digress. OU had no choice but to "self report". if they hadn't when they did it would have been brought to the ncaa's attention by other means.

Same penalty that was handed to UL for having a player using too much coorespondence credit... On that scale OU should have had every 5th player shot at close range...
  8. Re: ESPN is reporting the NCAA to announce possible sanctions against OU today... (l

So the NCAA were fairly quick in investigating and making a ruling (if you call 1yr quick), so why hasn't the same diligence been used in the USC investigation. Is there an investigation still going on? I haven't heard anything on that in a while.

It is the same sort of deal in my opinion. I think OU definitely deserved this, but I also think USC deserves punishment for Reggie Bush's situation.
  9. Re: ESPN is reporting the NCAA to announce possible sanctions against OU today... (l

Self-reporting a major violation should not absolve a school.

Every school self-reports minor infractions all the time and are rewarded usually by the NCAA acccepting their self-imposed penalties. LSU voluntarily gave up two scholarships in 2005 because two players received tutoring without paying for it (less than $200 worth). The NCAA approved.

But a major violation, even if self-reported, cannot be papered over. I think Oklahoma got off lightly. And so will USC.
  10. Re: ESPN is reporting the NCAA to announce possible sanctions against OU today... (l

I have been shouting from the rooftops since the USC infraction that the NCAA will not touch them. Sorry for the clihe,' but I will believe it when I see it. This is one of the reasons I dislike USC. They're the teacher's pet...it's never their fault. They are the Notre Dame of the west.
