"Great" Evangel players like: 1-Phillip Deas?-Signed with UNC; transferred to La Tech and sat bench. 2-Brent Rawls?-Signed with OU; got into trouble and transferred to La Tech and sat bench. 3-Phillip Geigar-Signed with Texas; played at texas but was nothing special. 4-J.D. Booty?-Signed with USC and is struggling to remain #2 on depth chart behind Leinhert. Rumors continue to circulate about Booty wanting to transfer. 5-Brock Berlin?-Signed with Florida allegedly because he was always a "Gator Fan" and because the Lord told him to after a long session of prayer. Two years later, after Berlin wasn't playing at UF, I suppose the Lord told him to transfer to Miami where Berlin had a mediocre career. definitely NOT the great "can't miss" QB he was touted to be in High School. 6-Chase Pittman?-Signed with Texas out of high school but has transferred to LSU. Currently on LSU team but jury is out on his career will turn out. 7-Cisco Perlins?-Signed with LSU but never played. 8-Byron Dawson?-Played at LSU and had a decent but not spectacular career. 9-Robert Davis?-Signed with LSU and played as a CB. Had a decent but not spectacular career. Most noted for getting beat deep twice in Bama game. 10-Josh Booty?-Signed with LSU and had an eratic career. Definitely did not live up to all the hype. 11-Abram Booty?-Signed with LSU and played for a season or two before quitting team and then transferring to D1AA school to finish his career. Did not live up to his high school hype. 12-Jacob Hester?-Committed to Texas but signed with LSU after fall out with Mack Brown. To early to tell how he will eventually pan out. So far so good. There was WR who went to Arkansas and played for the Hogs and had a good career there. Cole Pittman went to Texas and died in a tragic auto accident before his career was finished. That is a list of what most would consider the "high profile" Evangel players over the years and LSU either had or currently has 7 of them on LSU rosters. I don't know how you can say LSU doesn't seem to get the "high profile" Evangel players. The real question is why Evangel players don't seem to pan out in college after all the high school hype? This is particularly true for the Evangel QB's. It sure looks like more than a few "busts" are coming out of Evangel especially when you consider the success of the program and all the hype that surrounds Evangel players when they come out of high school. Evangel fans may not agree with this assesment but these are facts.
Talk was that the ECA coach was spending a little time in Texas. Recruiting, I guess, for another kind of ball.
Awesome post man!! You do know your history on Evangel athletes and I couldn't agree with you more. Wasn't that wide receiver Tristan Smith who signed with Arkansas or is he the wide-out who is playing at Oklahoma now?
Tristen Ross signed with OU, but has since transferred(not sure where). Richard Smith was the player at Arkansas(had a very nice career at Arkie & made the Cheifs practice squad last year. As far as Stroud is concerned, I talked to a buddy of mine(ECA hack) & he said that Stroud is soft(not aggressive) & slow. His parents are Ole Miss alums & wouldn't be shocked if that's where he ends up. JMO, but I don't think Schreiber will amount to anything more than a ST's player at Bama.
I appreciate the feedback, and not typical bashing common to message boards, esp to the newcomer. Again appreicated and :geauxtige
IMO, one of, if not the best recruit to come out of Evangel was DL Reggie Jefferson who signed and went to Illinois. He got into trouble at Illinois and was going to transfer and play at Grambling, but was busted for armed robbery and I believe he's still in jail. Of the ECA players who have finished their college careers I think you'd have to rank Josh Booty, Phillip Geiggar, Richard Smith, Byron Dawson, Steve Lee, Brock Berlin as having the best major college careers among ECA alums. But as far as LSU recruiting Evangel, I think the Tigers have done just fine. One would be hard pressed to say there's an ECA guy that LSU absolutely missed out on or would've rather had. The one recruit that I think Saban would've liked to have signed would've been Jonathan Wade at Tennessee. Remember, that was the minor violation where Saban was at ECA and Wade came in to see him, but it was a no-contact period. The NCAA ruled LSU had to stop recruiting him. Wade has speed to burn and would've been a DB at LSU.
Regarding the Jefferson kid from Evangel..... I believe his name was Eric Jefferson and he signed with friggin' Lou Tepper & Illinois when he graduated from Evangel. He did get into some trouble but last I heard the young man was supposedly back in Shreveport working at a grocery store. Just another Evangel success story.
This is going back aways but I remember reading in the TP back in the DiNardo days that DiNardo burnt alot of bridges and caused alot of illwill among the coaches at Evangel for LSU. I doubt that is the case nowadays.
March 7, 2005 Tiger coaches keeping an eye on Kreamer -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Scarborough TigerBait.com Safety Dan Kreamer of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport is going to be one of the most sought after Louisiana prospects for the 2006 recruiting year and last month he was on the LSU campus for a junior academic day. http://www.evangelsports.com/modules.php?name=News&new_topic=2 Maybe it's a new begining at Evangel. For obvious reasons, "Go Rebs", I'm not a big fan of theirs, but I'll take a quality recruit from anywhere.
