I'd have to say LSU and Georgia in 2003. I was on the sidelines on on the other side of the end zone when Skyler made THE catch. I was so excited I was jumping around in the endzone and an SEC official had to pull me off. After that it would be Washington back in 83, my first year at LSU, and we clobbered them 41-14...and it happened to be the largest crowd until the new east deck was built. Behind that would be the Auburn game in 2001 after it had been postponed due to September 11th...then the Oregon St game in 2004. I know there is supposed to be only one but jeez...there are quite a few that stand out.
I struggled a bit with the 97' win over no 1 Fla, not just because it was a great win and it pizzed Spurrier off so bad, but that was the game where my wife REALLY became a Tiger fan. Still it has to be THE Sugar Bowl, and it was made even more special because my wife surprised me 3 days before the game when I had given up all hope of being there with a e-bay ticket she bought by working overtime 7-7 shifts (RN). Her and our 3 little girls sending me off the day before to drive to NO to party and not miss something they knew meant so much to me made me feel like one lucky sob I tell ya. And the Good Lord Knows how much I enjoyed it, too! haha
That UK game was wierd. We left thrilled we won, but po'd because it took that kind of ending to win it. We had that one put away in the 3rd quarter. It took the UK post gaame radio show to really fire us after the win. All the SEC hates Kentucky, anti-LSU comments forced our hand and we stuck around the parking lot wearing the color just to catch crap. I have Randall and Henderson signed my ticket afterward! Or was that Hunt?
For me, it's a toss-up between Bert Jones driving a dagger into lefire: or the Bluegrass Miracle. Thanks to Devery Henderson, my marriage stayed intact and I didn't kill anyone like I did over the Mardi Gras Massacre 35 pt. comeback by UK. Ain't karma great?:geauxtige
my 1st yr as a student was 94 (hallman's last year) the two major LSU games on everyone's list i did not attend were uga 03 and the nat'l championship. i did however see lsu beat ole miss, bama, auburn (fire game), miss st, on the road. i saw the indy bowl vs mich st, the peach bowl vs clemson and the sugar bowl vs illinois. i saw great games in tiger stadium including LSU's 1st win over bama in 31 yrs, beating fla when they were #1 (rushed the field), beating tenn in OT (didn't rush that one) beating auburn for sec west in 01(rushed that one), and beating miss st in a shootout in 01. but honestly my favorite game was the "bring back the magic" game against auburn in '95. that was the game when the student section became what it is today. it was probably not as loud as uga 03 or as meaningful as fla 97 but this game was loud and it was meaningful. it was a rebirth. for me it was an initiation as a true tiger die hard. i was always a tiger fan, but that night i became a living breathing part of death valley. the feelings after beating them that night were undescribable. it was the true awakening of LSU football. unfortunately now it's lost in coversation's with older people who remember the 58 team and the tigers in the 70's, and also with younger people who seem to only remember 03. what's an almost 30 yr old tiger fan to do??? anyway, auburn 95 is my top game. however, i never shed tears at a game but i did after the sugar bowl in 03 however i could not attend so that can't make my list.
One? C'mon. I'll go old school (for me, at least) and say the pasting LSU gave Florida St. to go to the Orange Bowl in, what, 1983? I think the score was 56-21. Hilliard went nuts in that game, and I'll never forget the site of all them oranges filling the air.
Being in the stadium limits me, but I'll go with 21-20 over Auburn in 1969. That was one of the Tigers top 5 teams of all time, IMO. Best defense we ever had??? I remember we made a touchdown on the first play of the game, long pass. Pretty unusual for a Mclendon team. Jimmy Gilbert and Buddy Lee split time at QB, but I don't remember who threw it. I remember the linebackers, George Bevan, Mike Anderson, Bill Thompson, plus Tommy Casanova was a sophomore, played mostly cornerback, plus a little running back. Auburn had Sullivan to Beasley for pitch and catch. It was a day game in Tiger Stadium, I'll never forget it. Loud crowd!!! I was at the 1982 Florida St. game, 55-21, and it was a great game also, 2nd best for me of the games I attended. Lot of oranges that night (not that I recommend a repeat performance). After LSU got up about 21-0, the oranges came down. Flag, unsportsmanlike conduct, 15 yd. penalty, basically on the crowd. No mo oranges. Later, up like 35-7, BUNCH of oranges. Flag. BUNCH BUNCH BUNCH of oranges (students aiming at ref that threw the flag). 2nd flag on LSU, now kicking from our 10 yd. line. Fl. State scored TD, given to them by the crowd. Announcers ask fans to stop throwing oranges, and they finally did stop, till the game was over.
