Look at last years rankings (pre-bowls) 1. Ohio State 2. Florida 3. Michigan 4. LSU. I don't see the other BCS conferences allowing a system that would allow a final four to consist of only 2 conferences.
I also don't see the AP or any other media rating system allowing the SEC to host 2 teams in a National Championship.
I would suspect that too since the BCS limits a conference to two; however, if they really want to crown a "Valid" National Champion and the scenario plays out as such, how could they not?? To think otherwise defeats the entire purpose. Should be interesting but I share your reservations. :thumb:
Does anyone realize if we go to a playoff system the NCAA gets the $$ just like the NCAA B-ball tourney? Why the hell would you want to share $$ with other schools not in the SEC? All SEC schools would lose money!
Terry, what I find more interesting is this: I'm with ya tiga. If I had been the first to spot it I probably would have said something insensitive. Sorry, but it's kind of humorous.
It is very humorous and I thought about it at first but figured it was a kid and since he didn't post much, I was glad to see him posting and didn't want to spoil it......with a blunder like that, I figured there'd be other opportunities later. :hihi: Later came to learn the poster was quite a bit older and they did end up having a ball- I enjoyed watching them go at it...... Here's the funniest part- don't know if you caught it but he'd initially pitted us against AU in the following post: Then after it was brought to his attn. as to where the regular season game would be played, (Not that it changes the error) he posted this comment: And ended with substituting Alabama for Auburn, in the scenario!! Hell, too often I've been guilty of misreading, posting something way off, it was nice to see someone else for a change. :thumb:
One way to run a football playoff is to model it after the NCAA College World series. With NCAA Baseball, there are regonals, super regonals and then the 8 teams that play in Omaha every year. Being that Footall is still very much a regonal sport, with conference play, and for the most part, the OOC games that are played too. If you look at who the SEC plays most of the time OOC, the games being played are with other teams from the southeast. The same is true with the Big 12, Big 10 and the Pac 10 primarily playing teams that are in their same region. To take a page from NCAA baseball, it isn't a stretch to think of the regular football seaon as the regionals and the bowl games as the super regional playoff, for the right to play in the championship game. If you have ever followed the CWS, you will notice that the way the brackets are set up in Omaha, one bracket will consist of 4 teams from the East and the other bracket will be 4 teams from the West. This garantees that the final will have one Eastern school and one Western school, which is good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Regardless, being baseball and football are still primarily regonal sports, this format could be far better than computers deciding who the best teams are.
OK, Gang, I'm guilty as charged. I figured I'd try to add something to the discussion on the board about the potential new playoff system. Then when it was (correctly) pointed out to me that my scenario had a flaw in it, I tried to be clever in my response. (I'm always impressed with you guys that post a lot and how what you have to say always seems to not only make sense but also seems to be compelling.) If that wasn't a enough, I wound up talking about my hometown with someone I don't even know. I guess I'm just not cut out for this stuff. I'll always read the board, but I think I'll just stop posting. I'll still enjoy reading your stuff, though.
Dude, you brought some positive life to the board last night and it was fun to see you two in action.......reminded me of the old clique. People usually think what others say sounds "Better" than they could have (Cept tirk & Nootch :hihi: ). Human nature, we're harder on ourselves. KEEP POSTING! Cides, you and I are neighbors...kinda- I'm in Vidrine (Tween Mamou and Ville Platte). You're a Tiger fan bro. :thumb:
Thanks. All I know is that I am a die-hard Tiger fan and want the best for them! I'll keep posting, but I'll try to know what I'm talking about before I write. I know just where Vidrine is.
