he and skip were essentially the founding fathers of SEC baseball. skip is recognized more but both were close friends from the beginning and worked together to develop the landscape as we know it.

all sec stadiums and facilities are now top-notch and all schools spend money to compete-because they proved to athletic directors college baseball could be profitable and draw huge crowds.

both have fought hard against the ncaa and its insanity. after writing a 500 page thesis to the ncaa, objecting current rules and recommending changes, polk's ideas were rejected and/or ignored, forcing his retirement.

I cant say I blame him. His presence will be severely missed and his contributions to college baseball are endless.

Exactly what I was thinking, they were SEC Baseball for many years. Before them, it really wasn't much on the national scene. Also many of Skip's best SEC jokes were at MSU and Polk's expense. I think my favorite was something about Starkville being the only road trip where Skip always insisted on a room without a view.

This will be a grand ending for the Box's last regular seaon SEC weekend series.

Did you know Starkville was an Indian word? In English it translates to trailer park.

Lst night he said he gave Polk a gold watch and commemorative bats because he had to spend 35 years in Starkville. :hihi:

I only know one spanish word: La Quinta means Next to Denny's. (Old one, I know).

WAFB ran a nice 30 minute special on Alex Box. They'll replay it a couple of times, mostly on Cox cable channel 9.

http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=8258584 shows the replay times, and also has the entire show online. The extended interviews with Skip Bertman weren’t part of the original broadcast, so even if you saw the show that part will be new. The links below will open the videos in Windows Media Player. Once a commercial starts, that’s the end of the clip.
