Based on the info in the NCAA past champions link, you are correct. :thumb: http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/ia_football_past_champs.html
The NCAA starting recognizing a national champion in 1937. Anything before that should not be counted or you really start running into problems. The modern era of football begins with the NCAA in 1937.
At one time it was the AP and UPI polls. I forgot when it was that UPI either gave it up or went away. But it has always been sportswiters and coaches pols basically.
The following is a quote from the NCAA web site: Correct me if I'm wrong, but the NCAA doesn't recognize a national champ in Div 1-A.
The NCAA does not conduct an national championship and are not involved in the selection process, but they do recognize a champion for each year.
OK, I don't want to get into a semantics/splitting hairs discussion. Out of curiosity, who did the NCAA recognize in 2003?
