is that the one that they call "punt ugly" that everyone seems to dislike? i read that the coaches like it because it does provide more opportunities for fakes as you mentioned, so it will be used again this year.
Just what I have picked up from players here and there this Summer and also what I have seen with Crowton in the past. I basically formed my own assumptions based on different things I am hearing. It is only my opinion that Miles will keep RP grounded for the beginning of the season based on his past tactics used with Alley and such. He doesnt want to talk about players who need to work their way back, he doesnt want to the players talking to the media, and he seems to never want the troubled players to get too comfortable after troubling incidents.
The Spread punting formation is used to more fake punts, but coaches add it if the long snapper is inconsistant/not capable of controlling the snaps or if regular protection is weak. I have a friend who is a special teams coach and they rotate that scheme when needed. I am not saying our punt formation/protection is bad, but there were some times where i could have sworn the punt was going to be blocked......however, discuss: Are we being tricky or do we have weak protection......my vote is neither, lets go back to the old formation, esp for Va Tech.
I believe our coaching staff realizes this is the year to win it all. Loaded with talent and a favorable schedule. Hopefully this means they will use all weapons available which ever year a player is in. As far as QB, I think Flynn should see most of the snaps. I believe Crowton has been around long enough in the college game to know this is the year to not hold anything back. It should be a great fun year! :crystal:
But you were wrong. Close only counts in horseshoes. If they come close but can't get to the punter then the punt ain't blocked. Who really cares if the crowd is scared as long as the rushers can't get to the punter?
Well it's been awhile, so since F-ball is cranking up I better get to typing. I don't think Les will split the rotation, but I think RP will get some substantial playing time. Maybe 15 plays a game or so. I don't think he will be used like Tebow though. It was obvious it was going to be a running play off tackle when Tebow came in. If RP comes in, it is not necessarily be a running play. I think Crowton would keep the defense on their toes thinking that RP will run, but in fact the play calls for him to throw down field because he has quite the arm. At least I hope they mix it up with RP because he needs to get some passes under his belt if he is suppose to start next season.
without considering the influence crowton will have, i think they will not use rp as a weapon to beat good teams. the coaches know what the potential is for this season, so it will be all mf in the big games unless things arent working. rp will get significant time but only against bottom tier schools and usually after game is in hand. besides, are we sure that rp is a better scrambler than flynn? my impression was that rp is more elusive in the pocket but cant necessarily be expected to get more yards out of it---he is marginally slower than mf.
