Hell, I probably offer my opinion too often...I have no problem with that. But regardless if you or I feel JR gives us the better opportunity to win its obvious CNS feels they both give us the better opp. to win. By not throwing JR into the sea w/o a rope is a large reason. Obviously he barely knows half the playbook and struggles trying to execute what the coaches want (not just what we see) so there's no way they can hand over the reigns to him yet. Sure, we see the better spirals and the patience/calmness in the pocket with JR...don't you think our coaches see it as well and also see far more than we do? Problem is, there's a lot more to the position than just that and MR is needed to execute the offense while JR is absorbing info in the process from the sidelines til he is totally acclimated. Plus, the 2 headed monster gives us 2 looks to prepare for....an option oriented attack as well as a deep threat. This is a nightmare for defenses to prepare for and CNS knows this. When you spread a defense out with a quick passing game, the option oriented game becomes much more effective. They will compliment each other and LSU will be better because of it.
Don't strain yourself over a simple concept. I said I personally think Russell gives us the best chance to win, but I trust Saban to do what's best for the team. You see, me saying Russell gives us the best chance to win is my OPINION. Ever heard of one? Also, Saban starting Randall doesn't mean he thinks that Randall gives us the best chance to win. I know what you were trying to do, but you failed.
If LSU runs the offense you are indicating with Randall in the game (option oriented), then I buy into what you are saying, totally. But you did not see that against OSU. I have to believe things will be much different come Saturday night. I sure as hell hope so.
you're more likely to see spread offense with a more QB draw tendency. option mixed in when seen fit. no way JF shows any of this preconference slate.
A few words. Okay, a bunch of words. What I want to know is why no one seems to be able to give Randall the credit that he deserves. I'm not saying that he's been great, but to say that he's been so pathetic as to be a bench sitting backup is a bit premature. To say that he "obviously doesn't have it" based on his performance in past seasons is a stretch. 2 years ago he was young, inexperienced, and thrown into the starting role in the toughest part of the season. Last year, all he ever did was mop up. To say he doesn't have it based on that is about like saying Flynn doesn't have it based on his performance last Saturday. I don't think it's fair to go by anything other than this season, and I don't see too many people giving him fair credit for what he's done this season. The Oregon State game was just sad. The whole offense was bad. LSU just wasn't prepared to play an under-rated team, who was fired up. To say that Randall had the whole first half to score a TD and didn't isn't really fair. First of all, Randall had no protection. None. Go watch the tape. The O Line wasn't happening, and the fresh, fired up OSU defense was getting to him every play. (Keep in mind that it was early, in the first game of the year, against a fresh defense that he gave up his INT. If he should not play over that, then you better call for Green to sit the bench after that fumble on the opening kickoff. That after all, put us down 7.) Anyway, the runners weren't making plays, and the receivers couldn't get open or catch the balls. Randall didn't play well, but the blame is not all his. Plus, you are conveniently forgetting his nice touchdown pass that was called back b/c of Addai's jumping offsides. That wasn't Randall's fault. He made a great play. The scoreboard didn't give him credit, but you should be able to. Russell did look good after his first couple of drives, but he was playing against a noticeably more tired defense. Really, go watch the tape. He had more time in the pocket to make decisions, and he made some nice plays. There is no way to know if he would've been able to do any more than Randall had he started. The Arkansas State game was a whole different story, but nobody wants to give credit to Randall for his first couple of drives. Go watch the tape. He made some great passes, he protected the ball, and he's quick on his feet. I'm not saying Russell didn't also look really impressive, but if you really watch the tape, you can't say that he looked that much more impressive than Randall. They both looked like quality starting quarterbacks. Again, Randall had a really nice touchdown pass called back b/c of a penalty. Again, I choose to give him credit for that, as some of you should be able to. If you give Randall credit for the two TD's he's thrown that were called back, the numbers really don't look that different. Randall = 3 TD passes, 1 Rush for a TD, 1 INT; Russell = 4 TD passes, 1 Rush for 2 pt conversion. Listen up before all of you Russell lovers start writing all your defensive crap. I'm not saying that Russell is not the better QB. I'm not saying Randall is a great QB. I'm not saying that Russell won't win the starting job. I'm not saying that Randall won't suck. All I'm saying is we, as fans, should give a player on our team credit for what they've done. I think Russell will be incredible, but to call for Randall's head, partially because we're anxious to see the young phenom in action, just isn't fair. I think both should have the opportunity to play until they give us a good reason that they shouldn't. Of course that's completely up to Saban, and I think we should trust him to make the needed decision. Otherwise, it's ridiculous for a bunch of fans to argue over who sucks, who doesn't, who's great, who's going to win games, who's going to lose games, or who "has it" or "doesn't have it". Let's let the coaches make the decision as to who should play, and give support and respect to whoever is in there.
Are you saying then, If Marcus Randall gets rattled we should stick with him and let the season hit the skids? I hope we are prepared for the worst. Like I've said since day one here I will trust Nick and the coaches after last year but I think we can all agree if MR can't get the job done we are in deep sh!t. :dis: Agreed? I just want to see us WIN!
lol, if you look at the game thread from last week I was calling for the draw like Matt ran in the SECCG in 2001! :dis:
He wouldn't have scored the winning td without JR rallying the troops? :dis: The beat goes on? I hope all of this gets resolved after this week!
Read the post just above yours by Bubbafong. That's exactly my feelings. You are so quick to trash Randall that you do not see what is right in front of you. Again, read Bubbafong's post. I do not need to elaborate as he said everything I was thinking. We all love Russell and know he is the future but, damn, keep your pants on and let Nick work him into the position like he knows he should.
