I'm excited about our offense. We're mixing it up well and putting up points. We're getting the ball to our TE's, and our receivers in space. We're moving defenders out of the box and breaking off big plays. We're making defenses defend from sideline to sideline, as opposed to 15 guys in the box. Etling is a distributor. A manager. He's tough and takes what the defense gives him. Everyone running routes is an option for him. He'll make his reads and throw to whomever is open... which is a breath of fresh air from what we're used to. I'm excited and curious to see how the new staff utilizes BOTH Fournette and Guice in the coming weeks. I'm pretty sure we won't see Fournette with 25 carriers, and Guice with 5. He's too explosive to be rotting on the sidelines. Ensminger will have them both in the game at the same time in different formations and if we use them (and our other weapons) aggressively, this offense can be scary. Our defense is smothering opponents. OK, true - we haven't really played a dynamic offense yet, but our D is pretty stout. Our defense alone will keep us in these next 5 games. So again, I'm excited. We have 5 extremely difficult games to finish the season. The toughest schedule of any team in the country..... but with what I've seen the last 2 games out of Coach O and his staff, we have a real chance to win each game.
I think the only thing we can really take away from the last 2 games is that we beat them in a fashion that was appropriate. We are so used to seeing LSU struggle against lesser opponents and playing down to the competition, and we did that in the first half last Saturday, but made adjustments at halftime. It has been refreshing and I am cautiously optimistic. We will know if this team is real after the next game.
I'm feeling good about our chances, but if Eaux tanks it puts us in line to try to make a good hire. Either way is good.
I think this game is going to hinge on the following things. LSU's offense will need to be able to prevent our defense from being on the field for too long. We cannot fall behind a couple of scores early, no asleep at the wheel bullshit in the first half like this past Saturday. The defensive line needs to improve greatly, we really need Travonte Valentine in this game and demand additional blockers, if that happens Arden Key will have a field day. The safeties are going to have to show up in force because you can bet Ole Miss knows our linebackers stink in coverage. I look for a lot of throws to running backs and tight ends. Donte Jackson or Kevin Tolliver must be a presence. We know Tre will lock his side down, can whomever the 2nd corner is play well enough to contain the reciever they face. I look for Engram to line up on whatever side Tre White is NOT on. Can Etling continue to distribute the ball to more than just the X and Z receivers? Short intermediate passes along with a strong running game will give LSU opportunities in the play action game. Can he connect and can he continue to protect the football? I would say how healthy is Fournette but honestly LSU is probably the only team in the country who can turn to number 2 and not have a significant drop off from Fournette.
This is rhetorical right? None of us remember what was said 10 yrs ago other than Bama is the Mecca for inbreeders.
