Thats how I always approached it, at least until the manufacturers started making cars that were practically impossible for the average person to work on himself. I'm sure that is done on purpose because dealerships make just as much money in their service departments as they do in the showroom
See posts 6, 9 and 17. Prayer is not necessary. I've got more money than I have time to fuck around with it.
Sweet. At least you have time to change out shocks. Honestly, had you said you paid, I dunno..say $350, then I could understand. But you just basically sent $600 through a paper shredder.
So my latest deal was $20 off a $50 purchase. To top things off, I get a $10 rebate (processed online, no mailing and takes 1 minute to complete) on a set of Bosch Iridium spark plugs. So some $28 plugs (set of 4) cost me $7 after rebate.
I've probably changed my last ones. The bolts on my '85 pickup were so rusted that they almost beat me. I'll let some youngster do that for me next time. No, I got exactly what I wanted and I got it fast. My mechanics are not cheap, but they are very good and they guarantee their work.
I needed a new upstream O2 sensor in my car last month. Gordon and Sandifer's wanted over $900 bucks. I bought the sixty dollar part, a ten dollar can of bolt freeze, and had the job done in ten minutes. People wouldn't hate auto repair places so much if they didn't fuck you so hard on the easy shit.
@LSUsupaFan that is retarded. For an 02 sensor! Really! I just changed the power steering pump on my truck for about $40 Might I suggest to not try this without taking off the radiator fan. All I had to do was put the serpinten belt back on but figured I had enough room. Well I was right, there was. My hands and arms look like I tried to baptize a bobcat but there was enough room.
Just ordered 4 new rotors and pads for daughter #2's Jeep. That will be my morning Saturday. I love EBay. $115 to my door.
