PHAT Church
The Pre-College Program for Black Males seeks to empower black males by not only stressing the importance of education, but by also giving these young men the tools they need to excel in the classroom. Our educational motto is Educate, Empower, and Equip. Although society sees our young men as predators, hoodlums, murderers, criminals, thugs, gangstas, dawgs, and ni--ahs, we see our young men as intelligent, smart, creative, engaging, thoughtful, teachable, determined, principled, loving, faithful and committed. We use any means necessary to help these boys become men.
Leonard N. Moore is the pastor and founder of Phat Church. The Cleveland, Ohio native moved to Baton Rouge in the fall of 1998 after he accepted a faculty position at LSU. He is currently as associate professor of history and director of the Pre-Doctoral Scholar’s Institute. From 2001-2004 he also served as director of the African and African-American Studies Program at LSU.
