Same here. I had some concerns, but the more I look at him and assess his situation at Stanford, the better I feel about the hire.

I really liked his press conference. It seems like he will establish a bond rather quickly as well. Considering how easily a few impact players can turn a program around, we may be out of the dungeon in just a few short years.

I am just looking forward to the stability he appears to bring with him. Pretty exciting hire.

Is Butch Pierre staying on with the team?

Unknown. Johnson says that he wants him, but Pierre may be able to do better. Perhaps as a head coach of a smaller school or top assistant at a major school with a head coach nearing retirement.

New to the board, and just wanted to say that this is a hire that I believe we will all benefit greatly from. The more I read on Coach Johnson the more I think that he will bring back the glory of LSU basketball. Rich talent and competitive teams. Bringing back the fan base that has longed to support a product that they can be proud of. Getting us to a level of competitve play that is consistant and delivers NCAA tournaments on a regular basis will be very exciting to watch. We can be a basketball school too.:bball:

Sounds exciting, the only thing that concerns me is will the program have the fan support it needs?
I read someone's point on this board pointing out that CDB's good years the PMac being full not only because of a good basketball team but because football wasn't very good in those years.
You must admit that LSU football has never been better in the history of the university, maybe that is one reason why basketball didn't have the support?
    Food for thought!
