Ohio State was preseason #11 in 2007, not preseason #1 as you stated. They moved up because other teams failed to live up to expectations. I felt at the beginning of the season last year that Oklahoma, USC and LSU were head and shoulders above the rest of the competition. Oklahoma imploded more that once, LSU lost two games against teams they should have drilled IMO and USC had the big choke against Stanford. Blame the rest of college football that Ohio State got to the game in a year that they probably shouldn't have. Honestly, I think y'all should be happy you drew the Buckeyes because after the way that West Virginia played against Oklahoma I know for sure that I wouldn't have wanted to draw them.
The only media generated reason that I can picture for putting Ohio State in the #1 slot is so that USC can brag that they beat #1 and assume the inside track to the BCS CG. As a friend of mine put it, the media wants to keep on riding that Ohio State gravy train as long as the buckeye fans keep pumping out the money. But in real terms, I don't care if Ohio State would be returning 22 starters. Ohio State disintegrated during the recent game to where the buckeye players were at each others' throats. That kind of chemistry won't get it done in 2008 either. Just another reason to loathe the current system of smoke and mirrors in college football.
