More of a schedule thing. I would bet that had we played Kentucky on any other weekend than the one between Florida and Auburn, we would have won that game. Here comes @USC between @Florida and Georgia this year. They could easily be 6-1 when they play us. NCState, Wofford, Vandy, Ole Miss, Kentucky, UAB are all winnable games for them. Georgia is their only probable loss on that schedule up to that point.
We would all love to see a repeat, but of course the odds are not in our favor. You guys forget how close some of our games were (vs UF and Bama) and breaks along with turnovers determined the out come. I think we have tremendous talent even enough to repeat. But, remember that certain things had to to take place for us to be in the title game both in '03 and '07. The SEC is always a challenge and certain away games are known for questionable calls. Hell Auburn comes with their own refs. But if the breaks go our way we could find ourselves playing for the title again.:geauxtige:crystal:
I believe this is a down year for Auburn and they are ripe for the taking. It's now or never. In 2 years, they will be back and almost impossible to beat at their place.
It rarely goes both ways on the road against Auburn. Plus Tubberville is a jerk. Just being realistic. Heck I hope we go undefeated every year. But we haven't managed to do that since '58.
I think we should all just settle in to this FACT: LSU is in the hunt EVERY YEAR for some time to come. Since we're in the hunt, we have an excellent chance to repeat. Excellent being anything higher than "slim-to-none", especially for a team in the SEC.
Leadership. Dorsey, Hester, Flynn had it last year. Who's it going to be this year? D. Byrd is talking. Kirston Pittman? Perrilloux is a big question mark. If we are going to win a championship, he'll have to light it up. With Lee at QB, we'll contend, but not likely win the SEC (but could still win the west).
I think how we do on the road will determine if we get back to the SECCG. Fla. didn't lose anybody and we just got by them here. And Auburn is still Auburn, I'd like to think there won't be any shenanigans...... I think we'll be more poised for 2009. Not trying to be rain on the parade, just trying to be a little realistic. Course, we could go 12-0
To me, it comes down to two main factors. Will RP have a breakout Jr. year? Will we continue to have a nice turnover ratio? Answer no to either of those, and I'd say the road schedule will be our bane. Answer yes to both of those, and I'd say we can beat anybody, anywhere. Ball control (both in terms of eating up clock and not giving up great field position) was a huge key to last year's success. Which is why CLM benched KW in the Spring game for fumbling.
