Stop hating... was meant to be "dark comedy"... i just think its sick that USC could perhaps not play in the Championship game again this year and the AP could still award them a NC... allowing them to 3 peat

when you are a part of the bcs system, you play in the bcs system. it is that simple. the old rules have nothing to do with anything. when the bcs system was instituted, that makes the ap trophy as valuable as a bucket of mud. if they didnt like the bcs, they should have not been a part of it. there is no such thing as an AP national championship any more than there is a an AP superbowl.

usc is like a child playing rock paper scissors, claiming paper beats scissors because they want it to. it doesnt.

auburn is exactly as justified to claim the championship as usc was. not one tiny bit.

Claiming a national championship is what Auburn did last year. Not finishing #1 in any of the human polls and no NC game win... then still getting rings to honor their "national championship".[/quote]

No kidding, watching MNF couple of weeks ago, don't remember team or player, but when he introduced himself, he actually said 2004 National Champions Auburn Tigers:lol:

I do not recall them claiming the BCS championship. They only accepted what they were awarded.

but they were awarded nothing. the AP doesn't decide anything and has no value whatsoever. just like golf digest or some random words a child scribbles in crayon on a sidewalk.

is it like if they ap voted for the world series and decided the royals actually won. if the royals called themselves champions, that would be stupid. that is what usc has been doing.

All USC has ever done is accepted the AP championship which was presented to them. Every previous year, including all of the BCS years, teams have accepted this championship trophy. Certainly you do not think they should have refused it?

I would bet that any other university, LSU included, would happily accept that trophy in the same circumstances USC did.... and you know what, people would be proudly claiming it.

they also called themselves champions. they werent champions. there is a system called the bcs that determines the champion. just because the press wants power doesnt mean they have it. they tell you they do, because they write the news. again, i dont see why yuo do not realize that the AP determines nothing. there is no such thing as a split national championship. not anymore. there is the bcs. that is all.

it doesnt matter who does what. its still not a championship. any school would be wrong to call themselves champs without the bcs crystal.

i dunno how many times i need to say it. the press doesnt determine the champ any more than i do.

I believe they were the AP champions in 2003, which in my opinion makes them co-national champions that year. You disagree, and that's that.

you've fallen into the trap. there is no AP anything agreed upon. its a bunch of fat hacks who pretend their opinion means something so you take the bait. once the bcs was established it simply exposed it even more that it was nonsense. 2003 the AP is as valid as if martin decided to claim champions with his crayon writing it on a sidewalk at midnight mid january each year. both are as equally valid.

the fact Leinart had his FUBCS shirt shoulda kept the BCS from declaring them champs last year as well.

then again, its people like you who believe they have credibility which gives them such.

as martian said, even though the AP poll was recognized as MNC many moons ago doesnt give it credibility. its even less than zero now.
