DD- I assume you are talking to me. I've made trips to MSU, UM, UGA, Bama, AU, ARK and UF. I have also been to Hoover and Omaha. The only other SEC stadium that I think compares to LSU is UGA. As far as cost- Renovation will not cost nearly as much as construction of a new stadium. To my knowledge it is still up in the air but I truly believe renovation is more likely than the killer graphic on the Trahan web site.
That is a strong possibility. I've heard they may use the old Blue Marlins/ River Bats stadium. Should be interesting.
I agree with you about not having a parking lot, don't get me wrong...I think LSU has plenty of parking lots already, most of the students are lazy and just want a parking spot reserved for them outside of each of their classes. I'm sure they could think of something to put at that location and the Master Plan doesn't have a parking lot there so that is good.
I think most fans have mixed emotions on this one. While they know and see the need for a better facility it's hard to part with one with such a short yet gloried past. No matter where or how the next version is built hopefully it will be better built and equiped to handle rain. I would prefer that it at least stay on the same site but would not see it as the end of the world if it had to be elsewhere. Hopefully Skip will look at every option and be able to keep most fans happy while taking us to the top of the heap facility wise. No way everyone will be happy with this one but it doesn't hurt to try.
I hope they decide the build a new stadium instead of renovate. I think the lsu baseball program deserves the best ballpark in the country, and nothing less. I love Alex Box, but it's a shame that so many programs have much better facilities. Anyway I read an article in the advocate a few months ago, and Bertman said a new Alex Box would be around $23-26 million.
Ive got to disagree with you there...while I like the charm and recent history of The Box, but Baum Stadium at Arkansas is a much nicer facility. It's completely chairback seats and also has 8 luxury boxes, an actual pressbox, and it can seat 9,000 including in the outfield on the grass. Plainsmen Park in Auburn is another outstanding looking stadium with its brick facade and old time charm. Kentucky which averages like 350 fans per game even ponied up 4.2 million dollars for a great looking new stadium, yet we are sitting here with a stadium that has seen next to zero improvements. South Carolina, our main rival in the SEC, is now about to spend 10 million dollars for a brand new stadium.
Ahhhhhhhhhh.....the problems of success. I remember going to Sunday afternoon conference games at Alex Box when you could sit anywhere you wanted and total attendance was 2-300. We've come a long way. :yelwink2:
Me and my roommate used to tailgate and then get our free tickets, and sneak into the seats behind home plate, and if someone said "those are our seats", we would just move to two more empty, never got the boot.
