I think it was the 49ers who had the 1st pick that year and they took Alex Smith. #2 was Miami, #3 was the Browns, and #4 was Chicago.:thumb:

You are very correct. He stated it many times. The money was secondary to him in terms of enjoying the college experience, the football fraternity, and the chance to win a NC. They all know it's the No Fun League so why rush the business experience if you're just not ready to? Also, he had surgery on his elbow before his senior year. I doubt that pro scouts would have ignored that fact when evaluating him nor would owners have ignored it when determining salary.

He dropped as much from doubts about his arm strength as anything else and frankly even though the Cards have no O line, it was still the best situation for him.

Mike Williams is a great example of what can happen if you leave too early. Enough of those types of scenarios and players will start to stay longer.

its wrong to think that if a player stays an extra year in college and the team has a bad record that the players draft position will drop.

I want to echo CParso's statement. Big Baby was by NO means was guaranteed any spot in the NBA draft should he have come out last year. By most accounts, the draft experts were projecting him as a mid 2nd rounder (mayby late first rounder at best). There were questions about his weight and other abilities. I for one don't think you can put him in the same camp as Leinert or others for "making a mistake" to come back. If nothing else, the kid lost weight and had better moments being the "man." He also got tons of publicity and made many A-American lists, which helped spotlight him. Sure, he kind of had a diminishing season as it went on, but I think he's not worse off now, i.e., he could still be a late first rounder, early second rounder. Honestly, with another year of fine tuning his game, cutting a little bit more fat out of his body, and a good run, I can't see why he couldn't be a mid first rounder if he came back in '08.

Being picked #1 guarantees only one thing, you get #1 money. Doesn't mean the worse team picks u, sometimes teams trade up. a team with a future? LOL Cardinals, the perennial bottomfeeder LOL. Doesn't matter how much talent they have in AZ, they're just destined to lose forever. I mean being a college fan it's selfish just to think it's beneficial for another person to come back and play for free, when they're is bigger and better things out there. But with my purple/gold glasses I'm always going to think of my needs, and LSU football comes first.

Um, by collective bargaining, the pros can't go after younger players right out of high school in football, and now, basketball. That's why that thug Maurice Clarett sued the NFL because he wanted to not wait, and wanted to go into the draft immediately after his freshman year at OSU. And, the NBA changed its rules recently, where a high schooler can't jump immediately to the NBA. That's why Oden and Duarent are playing college basketball right now. Otherwise, Oden would have been drafted the number one pick last year.

He didn't just drop slightly. Leinart went from an automatic first overall pick to number ten pick, and that cost him around twelve million dollars. But, hey, SC alums were paying him too much under the table for him, a la Reggie Bush, to afford to leave. :yelwink2:

How would another year at SC affected William's speed? The guy is tall and has good hands, but doesn't have the speed in the NFL to gain separation.
