He said it. I heard it, but in May's defense I think he was just trying to emphasize how badly the Irish are going to suck this year.
I can see that...saying that Weis will have to do an outstanding job for the Irises to win 7 games...I'm cool with that.:thumb:
What May was saying is that with their first 8 games, they are going to win ONE, maybe TWO games during that stretch (look up their schedule, its rather nasty), and that if they win 7 games he will pencil Weis as coach of the year and show everyone his ballet. It was in response to a viewers question that asked if they can win more than 7 games, in which his response was a definate no.
OK...here's their schedule...1 top 10 team from last season in the first 7 games...and another top 25 team with PSU, who finished 24th. Then they play USC in the 8th game...then 4 patsies in a row to finish the season. Here's the final AP poll from last year. Where i'll agree, their last 4 games are quite easy, here are their first 8 games: Georgia Tech 9-5 (7-1 Conf) Acc Coastal Champs Penn State 9-4 (5-3) Beat Tennesse in their bowl game Michigan 11-2 (7-1) Great team, got crushed by USC Michigan St 4-8 (1-7) pretty safe to say this is the game they'll win Purdue 8-6 (5-3) Lost to Maryland in their bowl game UCLA 7-6 (5-4) Beat the Trojans last game of the season BC 10-3 (5-3) Won their bowl game, with walk on kicker USC 11-2 (7-2) Destroyed Michigan, and hoping we play'em this year Win/Loss: 69-36.........winning teams in bcs conferences and 75% of their games this year are against teams that played in bowl games. I'd say its a rough stretch to play for your season when you lose your best quarterback, reciever and running back to the draft. Having said that, their schedule is the 13th hardest schedule (from SI.com) after having 6 SEC teams in front of them. I'll also state, that i am not giving Notre Dame any credit, i was only noting that Mark May said he was going to pencil Weis as Coach of the Year IF they win 7 or more games, because he said they will win ONE or maybe TWO games from that 8 game stretch. His remark was in response to a viewers question if they could win more than 7 games, and it just emphasising that "hey, they suck." And when i was typing my thread post it was in response to 2 peoples post ahead of me.....but i guess it took a while to register cause some other people responded before me pointing out that his response was of satire. Hope this clears up anything i said.
it was in the paper here today that ou just agreed to a two year series with nd starting in 2012. just another example of scheduling a cream puff ooc game.:hihi:
Oh..your post is fine...it's just a hobby of mine to slam ND any time the opportunity presents itself...and I will do it again now. I agree that this schedule is the toughest................................................that ND has had in recent history. Of those 8 games you listed, 5 of them are against at best mediocre teams...and Mich St...which absolutely sucks. The mediocre teams are as follows: Georgia Tech---9-5 last year?? Just think about that a minute. Hell, ND was something like 11-3...and we all know they suck...so mediocre is a genorous term to use regarding GT. Penn St---Mediocre...with a legendary head coach...but mediocre, none the less. Purdue---lost to Maryland in their bowl game...'nuff said. UCLA---7-6 in the Pac 1 last year...'nuff said. Says more about USC than about UCLA that they beat the Trojans last year. BC---needed a walk on kicker to squeak out a victory in their bowl game...'nuff said. Sorry...I just don't see how this schedule is as brutal as the media is making it out to be. I do however understand now that Mark May was using satire when he made his remark...I was able to catch a replay of the show this afternoon.
