Gumbo can be thick or thin, depending on the cook.
You can call it gumbo, and many do, but you could call it Ralph, too. For example, Campbells has a canned soup called chicken gumbo. Try it and tell me if it actually is gumbo. I think not.

NOW . . . I know some folks don't care for okra because they think its slimy. Well, there is no rule that says just how
much okra makes it a gumbo. I like a lot of it, but you could just put in just a little for flavor and authenticity and I would pronounce it gumbo.
