or children that will be born into low income families, or unwed mothers, raising the need for funding of programs such as wic, medicaid, food stamps, and yes, welfare.

my argument other than prevention reduces the number of abortions, funding planned parenthood saves money. its an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. or cutting planned parenthood is penny wise and pound foolish. fiscally, it makes a lot of sense. but it also makes sense in the ethical terms of preventing abortion.

in both instances, by opposing planned parenthood completely because of a small percentage of what they do, the right is cutting off its nose to spite its face, both in fiscal policy, and in terms of preventing abortions.

cutting family planning services to the poor will only make both areas worse.

and yes, i know, im starting to say the same thing over and over. but as a woman, i dont want to see other women put in the situation where they feel that abortion is an option. taking away family planning and contraceptive services is only going to put more women in that position. and that angers me.

The only thing more appalling than not passing that bill to appropriate funds for military paychecks is adding language to restrict the use of non-federal funding in Washington DC for abortion-related causes. Just sign the damn bill, get the troops their money and you can always come back and pass legislation to add back what this bill took away.

On the other hand... Really? The deadline is hours away, everyone gets together to throw something in writing to provide for the troops' families while their loved ones are taking fire overseas and the GOP decides that NOW is the time to make a stand on abortion?

Both sides are definitely to blame.

It's not an issue. At least its not an issue until people like you stick your nose in other people's personal business.

I don't tow the party line on every issue. There are many that will go with the position of their party peorid. I am a conservative more than republican. I think contraception is important and everyone should be able to have access to it. If that's not the official republican stance then that's ok. I don't care if gays marry either.Birth control pills are covered on private insurance and they should be covered on medicaid. Is planned parenthood the only place the poor can get help with birth control pills and the like?
I don't agree with every position of the republican party and I don't think that every position of the democrats are wrong. There are moderate democrats just as there are moderate republicans. The hard right wingers and the progressives are making governing this country impossible. The social issues pushed by each party must be droped for now and we must get the out of control entitlement spending in check. Before FDR the gov was much less involved in peoples lives but now gov has to be daddy and provide everything. In a perfect world we could feed and clothe everyone and medical would be free. It's not a perfect world and we simply can't afford all these social programs. If spending isn't cut the dollar will be worthless one day in the near future. Remember the mess russia was in after the ussr collapsed? That's where we are heading unless we cut our spending now. This should be completely seprate from social issues. Both sides have to get this through their skull or our kids will not have the lives we want for them. The great socialist society has never worked. We will go bankrupt trying to cure all the ills for everyone. Government can't be everything , it's job is to give everyone an equal shot.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on who to blame there will be some who will help/hurt their political power based on this issue.

I realize we've had horrible choices (lesser of two evils) for President since Reagan but there are" some" sharp people in both parties. What I don't understand is how some of the worst rise to the top.

Even for an extreme liberal it was difficult to defend Pelosi the last few years. Now that she's been removed Reid has surfaced as the Biggest Loser.

Even if you agree with him 100% you have to be embarrassed by his comments, demeanor, etc. I'm so ticked at the people of Nevada for keeping him in office I don't plan to visit Las Vegas again until he's gone.

I just hope people continue to push for cuts. Regardless of the solution...what got us in this mess what overspending. This notion that the goverment (reality check - working class, productive taxpayers) should fund everything is just nuts.

If you want something...work for it! Stop blaming society for being a worthless, non-productive loser and stop expecting the taxpayers to fund you!

You want to be irresponsible? Pay for it! I'm tired of funding your abortions, habits, addictions, mistakes, shortcomings, etc.

I'll gladly help the elderly, abused, sick, innocent, etc. but the non-productive can take their pity party elsewhere!

Our elected officials spend our money to keep their lifestyle by buying votes through BS programs and handouts. Demand term limits now! Demand an end to redistribution of wealth now! Demand that Congress have the same health plan and retirement plan as the one they force on us!

By God, there is a moderate inside of you trying to get out. I entirely approve. I bet if you gave a little time to CNN or BBC in addition to a steady diet of FOX, you would gain better perspective than from way out there in right field.

The bulk of the budget is to pay social security and medicare. These are not people who are "worthless, non-productive losers".

Then encourage the republicans to make that distinction. As it stands, they do not.

Democrats should also learn to make distinctions. When illegals get to go to college on the taxpayers expense even when their grades are sub par democrats fail to see the distinctions between Americans and non Americans.
