I only see two potential starters and the rest long shots. The Saints were in a bad position in the draft which comes with a championship. However they drafted a lot of long shots and most picks are not at a position of need. Could it turn out to be the best draft ever, yes. However the odds are pretty low.
If a quality player filling one of the Saints' needs were available when their turn came up, I'm pretty sure they would have picked him.
All I have to say in reference to this is that a good portion of this team is made up of long shots and players perceived to be past their prime or too big of a risk due to injuries. I think that CSP does best with making projects into success stories and bringing players careers back to their peek years. The formula got us a Super Bowl, I say stay the course and keep doing what has worked so far.
I'm not saying anything in your post is not true. However for every Colston there are 1,000 long shots that do not pan out. It may turn out to be a fantastic draft, I just think the Saints would have been better served drafting for need rather than best available player at already deep positions. Unless they pull in some free agents at DT and LB.
I think that is what is going to happen, looking back Sean Payton has made some really ballsy moves in the draft, drafting nobodies and turning them into gold, however he has earned his keep in Free Agency. Fujita, Shanle, Brees, Vilma, Sharper, Greer, has to be at least 5 or 6 i am forgetting.
Actually they found out that Carolina who was right after the Saints picking Woods would have taken him. Now that's doing your homework.
Brian Price went 3 picks after the saints drafted a CB. He was projected late first round early second. DT is a definite need for the saints. They clearly went for the best player available regardless of need.
Not sure they would want to add too much weight on him given when he was at that weight he was unproductive. Mentioned by a few NFL scouts. Maybe he can change that but I would rather keep him as a slasher with his athletic ability and speed. He also lacks leverage which is crucial for the big body pluggers. Pay attention! He will be plugging the middle against the Saints twice a year. The Saints went with the best player available, he wasn't the best available but certainly was a quality player and did fill a need. You're obviously not an expert either.
