as I said, they were stating at around the 35 anyway, this kick ended up at the 36

    it was a GREAT call

you did notice we had issues with the short kickoffs, correct?

Yes. Kicking and punting was painful to watch.

Mississippi State's offense got a reality check from the stout LSU defense Thursday. After averaging over 46 points per game in games against Memphis and Auburn, they scored just 6. The Bulldogs were held to 52 yards on the ground after averaging 321 yards per game entering.

And 3 points were a gift due to that 15 yard roughing penalty on the QB.

We don't have that much confidence or we would have played more aggressive on offense to put the game out of reach earlier. Hope the coaches show more confidence in the offense to make plays and more confidence in the defense to have the offense's back should a mistake be made. Maybe we're trying to start slow to give the offense confidence, but according to Les's track record we will grind through games all year and eventually lose one or three.

I remember the days of Joe Montana and I don't ever remember him having a perfect game. Yes JL made a couple mistakes, but very few. The red zone pass to Peterson was pass interference and wasn't a bad pass IMO. Randle stopped his route on the int. I've been extremely critical of the QB's the last few years. However JL played lights out last night. I'm still waiting to see any QB play perfect, but it's unlikely to happen.

I don't take issue with anything you just said.

Would have to look at the pass to Peterson again, it just looked like if he lead him it's a TD, instead he threw it to his back hip and allowed the defender to make a play on it instead.

Exactly! How could anyone have a problem with the onside kick. The only problem I had is that we should have done it more. We lost nothing and got a chance at the ball.

Grades look pretty good. I would knock the receivers down to a B maybe even a B-. Those guys have got to block better. It's embarassing. Especially Randle.

our receivers caught 18 of the 21 completions by Lee

I'm giddy. Haven't seen that in over 3 years. Forgive me.

He played very well but not A+ well. He still folds under pressure...fortunately there wasn't much to speak of last night. But the one time there was, he folded easily like fresh laundry. That won't work against better defenses...like Bama.

That pass to Peterson wasn't pass interference because it was on the borderline of being within 5 yards. 3rd and goal in an obvious pass situation, throw the ball in the end zone or out of it. Peterson was not going to score even if the ball had been thrown perfectly.

Rueben had the obvious drop that definitely would've gotten a first and maybe more since he had a blocker. On the interception, he stopped his route because he was supposed to. That was a read. A corner and two safeties deep, stop and turn around. Miscommunication that probably has as much to do with them only being the #1s together for a few weeks as it was just a bad decision.

I thought he was late on a few throws but his accuracy more than made up for the lateness. You can be a little late when you're throwing a perfect ball.

Overall, B+ to A- range. It SHOULD'VE been enough to silence the Mettenberger wishes, but I doubt it will. I definitely think he's got the goods, but this team is set up for Lee's leadership and he's performing well. We're very young everywhere (albeit deep) with only one obvious early out possibility (Claiborne) and I doubt even he goes. Lee's experience steady's the ship on the field. Next year when Lee's a grad assistant, Mett will be glad to have him around.
