I agree...after the Sugar Bowl ticket mistake, Shyrone never got out of the Saban dog house. Saban punished Shyrone for not only embarrassing himself but the university and the program. Saban was not one who looked favorably on players who didn't toe the program line. Look at Justin Vincent, reported over weight and out of shape and after the first fumbles JV was relegated to special teams duty.
I think Shyrone is grateful that Les Miles is now the head coach because it wasn't like Saban was going to forgive and forget. I hope he has a great senior year. I applaud Shyrone and Ronnie Prude, who were both partial qualifiers, but both graduated from LSU this past week.

I think the best receiver title goes far and away to Joe Addai, but Carey can have an impact

I've long felt bad for the kid. Here's a guy who came to LSU, waited behind Toefield and Davis, then got his shot to share starting time with Addai in 03, and played well until he went down with an injury (if my memory serves me correctly from something I read the other day, he was averaging over 4 yards per carry... 4.3 I think). The he got replaced by a freshman and never got his job back. I can't blame Saban for sticking with JV in 03, b/c he was pretty darn hot. But when Carey got busted trying to sell his tickets I felt bad for him b/c he obviously didn't feel like he was a contributor to the team anymore.

It also amazed me how quickly he was forgotten in the media and even by the fans on this forum.

I'm hoping #2 gets a chance to redeem himself this year. Geaux Shy.

Maybe the only thing I've seen posted this week that all should be able to agree on. :thumb:

Apparently, it didn't take much to be in Sabans doghouse. Songy pointed out yesterday how Hester saw minimal PT and practically no touches after the fumble in the UGA game. Odd part is, the fumble came at the end of a really good run (of which I believe he also had one or two others prior).

Side note about Shyrone: He benches well over 400lbs. Now, I heard that in '03, so it could very well be up to 500lbs by now. Either way, that is one seriously strong little dude!

Shyrone Carey did average 4.3 yards per carry in 2003, by the way, JV averaged 6.5, man that was awesome !

    Shyrone Carey 8 78 366 28 338 4.3 6 35 42.2

Saban did seem to pick favorites...

I remember the JV fumbles etc...

But then Alley fumbled in a game and stayed in...

I guess iti s just a certain "feel" that a coach gets...

Can't argue with a man who won as much as he did

To me it wasn't necessarily that he had "favorites," it was that if that player didn't take care of his business, like coming into camp in shape, then exacerbated the situation by fumbling then Saban basically made them obsolete by not playing them. That's what I meant by toeing the "program line"...a player was expected to do certain things on and off the field relative to becoming not only a better football player but a better citizen.

I don't think it's silly at all to say that, BB. I'm sure there were a few reasons why, but I'd think trying to sell tickets to the national title game after the team was specifically warned not to do so had something to do with Nick's opinion of the guy.

I mean, Saban wanted to win that title as bad as anyone, something he'd worked towards his entire coaching career. I'm sure the ticket brouhaha was a very, very unwelcome distraction in St. Nick's eyes.
