lol cmon gman this question is almost rhetorical unless you wanna argue semantics as red noted.

Best "Tiger" of all time is chollie. thats a fact.

    Best football coach: little nicky

Need someone to find nicks overall stats on defense at LSU--points/yards etc. I read an article awhile back. simply amazing, especially in todays high octane offenses. he may go down as the best def. mind in my lifetime.

Nick Saban took lemons and made lemon aid. Did great this for the university in more aspects than just on the field.

According to The Fighting Tigers, Peter Finney's definitive history of LSU football, from 1958 thru 1961 when he was Dietzel's defensive coordinator, Charlie Mac's defenses allowed an average of 4.57 points per game. That's pretty superior defensive coaching in any era, Tirk.

Gimme a break here, Tirk...aren't most of the polls posted here rhetorical in nature? That doesn't lessen the opinion factor involved.

there were teams who actually punted on 2nd and 3rd down back then (even read a handful of times on 1st down) . surely you realize the difference in offensive schemes and the change in the passing games from that era to this one.

thats not debatable in my shallow mind.

Doesn't take away from what those teams did or how great the coaches were either.

as much as offensive schemes have changed and adapted, nick saban is the spurrier of defensive genius.

plus I said in my lifetime. that era wasn't.

plus football games used to be played with 11 white boys playing two ways, now we have 110+ players on the sidelines, 85 schollies, separate offensive and defensive squads, and all of the african american athleticism you can shake a stick at. kids are taller, faster, stronger, and meaner than anyone ever was in the 1950's.

No doubt about it. A TD a game was probably all those worn out honkeys could muster.

    Sabam?

Kind of close to SADDAM, isn't it?

A typo? Very likely. But your Freudian slip is showing. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
