1. He's just looking to cause a little controversy and get people to have that "oh my God what did he say?!" reaction. If all he did was gush over Miles and LSU, well there wouldn't be this thread and no one would talk about him or his articles.
  2. You have to consider the source. It sounds like Guilbeau fells there should have been no suspension. No punishment. What would he have taken away from that? It was really a absurd article, particularly toward the end. Par for the course for Guilbeau.
  3. I've said it before. Guilbeau doesn't really bother me. We need to have one sportswriter who swims against the current. I can remember when all we had were sportwriters who kissed LSU's ass and didn't report anything negative.

Media controversy types like Guilbeau, Finebaum and Howard Cosell don't try to be cheerleaders for the home team. They just try to keep interest up, especially in the off season and get readership for the paper. He succeeds if we get excited about a story and link it all over the web. We're all talking about Guilbeau's column ain't we?

Guilbeau is into controversy and will try to create one if needed. He can be a real jerk, but he helps keep the LSU athletic department honest and especially keeps other papers like the Advocate honest. He's more than balanced by the positive reporters that also cover LSU. He gives us a punching bag in the off season. If he didn't exist, we'd have to invent him.
  4. Quite simply, it's just a way to get a reaction and it fits in well with his anti-Miles personal sentiments. I take it with a grain of salt because it's only his opinion since he has no earthly idea of what is going on with Miles, RP and the overall program.

Sidebar: I met a guy on the golf course and he was admiring my new LSU headcovers. He said he hates Miles though. I asked what more did he expect? Miles has lost 6 games in 3 years and won an NC. He said "It's not Miles that won, it's the athletes". I smiled, shook my head and said: "I can't help you". :dis:
  5. All that's true Red, but I still can't stand him. You're right about one thing, I've heard him on TV and radio, and he's definitely a obnoxious azz.
  6. So RP got into just enough trouble so he wouldn't have to participate in spring practice and the spring game? Props Guilbeau, you nailed it. :rolleye33:
  7. I'm all for Louisiana sports journalists who offer honest, intellectual criticism of any failures we have when it comes to LSU football. For example, is Coach Miles the best coach we can get or not? If there is honestly someone better out there that we can get as our head coach, then I would like to hear about it. If there is honestly a better way that we can run our football program, then I'd like to hear about it.

But this Guilbeau guy isn't even trying to offer honest, intellectual criticism.

RP is embarrassment? Really? Then why wasn't it a national problem that he got to go to the White House to be honored by our President? RP's criminal background is just as bad at that of the sitting US President, and both of the US President's daughters. OMG. The sky is falling.

This Guilbeau guy doesn't even try for honest, intellectual criticism of LSU football. The guy, like many of you have pointed out, is just some greedy slob spewing out garbage because he knows it will cause controversy and sell papers and make him more valuable to his employer. The guy is more concerned about his own slob life than he is concerned about seeing LSU football succeed as one of the greatest college football programs in the history of mankind. To me, the guy's an embarrassment, a traitor, dishonorable, etc.
  8. It's not his job to be a cheerleader for LSU. Is that so hard to understand?
  9. Yes, part of me would like to see every Louisiana sports journalist being a die-hard fan of LSU, praising the glory of LSU in every article. I honestly don't see what is wrong with that. I honestly don't see how that wouldn't sell papers as well. It's just college football, not religion, not politics. Sports is one of those few parts of humanity that we can all get behind our team 100%, because it is just a game.

But yes, another part of me, like I said, is all for Louisiana sports journalists offering honest, intellectual criticism about how we can do things better when it comes to LSU football. After all, we all, as Tiger football fans, want LSU football to be #1. I just don't feel that this Guilbeau guy is sincerely on board with wanting LSU football to be great. Or, maybe the guy does love LSU football, but he just isn't that bright. Either way, it doesn't make me proud as a Louisiana citizen seeing that he was one of those few people out of the fine state of Louisiana chosen to represent us Louisiana folk as one of our sports journalists. I believe that they are many, many better Louisiana people out there that could do his job better, whether they come across as anti-LSU football or not.
  10. Didn't Guilbeaux post here in the past? Seems to me I recall him defending himself before. I may be confusing him with Dubois who I know has made some respectable posts but I think Glenn has been on the boards as well. Anyone else with a better memory than I?
