I absolutely said nothing of the sort. You misinterpreted an observation that I made about JR into something completely unrelated. It's something that JR did all season that was living proof of his incapability or unwillingness to check off recievers. That point can't even be argued. Even his biggest apologists realize this is his fatal flaw. No disagreement here. Now, show me where I said otherwise, and you might have a point. My remedial lessons on opinions are out-of-session for the day.
Abilities don't mean squat if you don't get the results, it's the results that count. Many a lesser talented player has been able to get the job done and get the results while a more talented player struggles. JR is by far more physically talented than Flynn but it is the results that count. I am not in the camp that believes that Flynn should start because of the Miami game and in fact I think it will be a wide open 3 way race this spring, but don't for a second think that ability is more important than results.
I would rather have JR in the game than Flynn. However, you are correct on this. At the games, you could see that Russell locks in on his initial receiver and rarely made his reads and progressions to second, third, and fourth receivers. Usually if he did, it was to the right or left to one of the backs. He got a lot better as the season progressed and got more comfortable. Countless times at the games, myself and others have noticed this and commented about it. Lets take one game for instance. I remember at the Mississippi State game sitting amongst a group of LSU fans in Starkville and everyone commenting about this. The game was going well, but it was indeed happening and problematic. I watched the recording of that game when we got home, as I do every game. There was very little indication of this watching it on tv. You could not really follow his head movement and see the receivers all over the field running their routes. You'd have to be at the game to see it. I know this is what you were taling about. Just wanted to comment on it as well.
Apparently what I'm trying to say isn't coming through. Ability creates results. A great QB will get results, but just because a QB gets results, doesn't mean that the QB is great. Many times a great team has achieved success with a decent QB - that QB gets a lot of credit, even when it isn't always warranted. My point is that: In those situations, a better QB could get better results. For instance, I believe that JaMarcus could have gotten similar results in the Peach Bowl because there was a great TEAM effort. But could Flynn have gotten JaMarcus's results throughout the season (with no running game, poor blocking, bad receivers)? I'm not sure, but I don't think so.
This thread reminds me of driving by a wreck on the interstate. I know I have better things to do than slow down and look, but for some reason I do it anyway.
JR has 2 years under his belt. He's not great yet, but he will be. He is twice the QB that Matt Flynn could ever hope to be. I'd rather have JR starting than Flynn with another Flynn as backup. JR will win a game that Flynn would lose. Any monkey could have QB'd the team to a win in the Peach Bowl. The team played that well. If Flynn had started every game last season we would have lost 3, maybe four games. That's my opinion.
Clair nailed you with your double speak right between the eyes and with your pompous arrogant attitude you cant take it . I thought you wanted open discussion or was that only if people agreed with you. He didnt put words in your mouth be cause their wasnt any room left after you had your foot in there. Yeah everyone is entitled to the opinion Chaos whether they go to the games or not.
You sure don't have much respect for Flynn. There's no way to know how well Flynn would have done then. Flynn performed well when given the chance (except the SECCG), so I think he's a decent QB capable of being a starter at many major programs. JaMarcus is a talented QB, with high potential. Right now, he's a good QB - probably the best redshirt sophmore in the country. I think he'll be great before he leaves. JaMarcus is not near as good as some think he is. Who cares how far he can throw or his body type? Those things are relatively unimportant right now. He's also not near as bad as some think he is. He lead us to a 10-2 record this past season with many, many obstacles to over come. That's quite impressive.
