All good points except this one. A trite cliche. I'm pretty sure LSU wanted to win as much as Bama did.

I didn't see any fire coming out of the timeout with 11.0 seconds down 6.

OK, time for my two cents. Golfer, you are wrong to sarcastically say "great game guys" simply because you can't stand Brady. The bball team did not want to lose that game any more than the coach did. That would be like me saying Great Tournament, LSUGolfer sure did suck, so, lets get rid of the golf coach. There is a word called teamwork. Even though golf can be played individually, when in a tournament or scramble, you use everyone's score. Same thing. If you are a true Tiger, you pull for them...no matter what! I prefer football and baseball to basketball, but I would never say anything like that.

Brady: Okay guys. Let's win it.

Team: Nah. Don't want to coach. :dis: :dis:

I am just curious of why you continue to bash GT. Today, he played a good game He played 30+ minutes and I dont think he had one TO, his shots were falling in the 2nd half. Sure his man slipped by him some, but so did D-Mitch's, Tasmin's, Voogd's, and then on top of that Glen, Tyrus, Darnell, let them get to many second chance shots. I mean damn man everybody was at fault. It was a team loss.

Did you see anyone beating his chest and getting fired up like Joakim Noah just did?

bama played hard all game perhaps even harder than at LSU==you expect that at home (especially after losing to LSU). LSU played hard too.

thats major factor #1 in the outcome.

steele came to play. he refused to be taken out of his game this time. any good player that had a bad game against a team will turn it around against that same team next time (especially at home).

thats major factor #2 in the outcome.

the box and one. felix is athletic enough to guard dmitch and there wasnt much brady could do about it. the announcers ticked me off by saying several times that LSU didnt know what to do against it-havent figured it out. bs. watch the game again. the first three or four possessions against that D, LSU got good looks, the ball just didnt drop. dmitch passes to the post-missed shot, drove and passed to the wing-missed shot, passed to the wing-three pointer. thats exactly what should be done. just not enough plays were made.

i dont know why brady kept GT on steele, but my guess would be that it plays to the strength of the LSU D--athletic frontcourt. steele cant get an open jump shot with GT on him so he passes (ball out of his hands-adv LSU) or drives and has to deal with TT, GD and TM.

im encouraged by the game. hung tough against a talented team giving its best at home. another play or two goes the other way and LSU wins.

Thanks for trying to keep it real. I will say that I could not watch the game but will do so and try to understand this loss better. What I did do though is try to dissect the box score to see exactly what happened. It'd be fair to say that overall, 'Bama deserved to win this game b/c they just did the things they did, a little better than we did. We lost by 5, with maybe four of that five at the free throw line. We shoot 42.4% to Bama's 43.9%. We're even on rebounds. We actually have a better assist to turnover ratio then they did (15-12 vs. 11-12). We hit the same number of 3 pointers (7), although they have a better % on them (38.9% for us vs. 46.7% for them). So, what does this game come down to? For one, they shoot more free throws (10 for 13)--they're at home--and we shoot 5 for 6.

I'll also say if you look at some of your points, I'm not quite sure it's 100% right. You say D.Mitch didn't get enough looks with the box-n-1 on him, but he obviously got looks, he shot 13 shots, but didn't convert on them like in past games (3 of 10 from 3 land). Perhaps having Felix on him affected his shots, and I suppose this is just something where Gottfried's defense experiment worked to get D.Mitch out of sync. To the contrary, it seemed as though the other outside shooters didn't play too bad, GTemple hit 2 of 4 3s and Tasmin hit 2 of 3 3s, with 6 of 9 overall. So, our other perimeter guys didn't NOT shoot the ball well, you could probably argue that the Tigers didn't work the ball into the right hands well enough, but again we had more assists than 'Bama had.

So, besides the fact that Bama got to go to the free throw more often (and I'd argue that Davis probably didn't get as many calls as he should have... but I agree with you that he didn't shoot well from the field and so didn't have his best game), what else can you say won the game for them:

    POINTS OFF TURNOVERS
    LSU - 10
    University of Alabama - 18

    POINTS IN PAINT
    LSU - 22
    University of Alabama - 29

    2ND CHANCE POINTS
    LSU - 8
    University of Alabama - 14

    FAST BREAK POINTS
    LSU - 4
    University of Alabama - 7

    BENCH POINTS
    LSU - 4
    University of Alabama - 22

What this tells you is that 'Bama DID perhaps "want it more" because the 2nd chance statistics is just a hustle stat. That's one we usually win. They beat us at our own game... they beat us in the paint. I also think that one stat that shows our potential weakness at the guard spots... we tend to lose the points off turnover and fast break points stats. This means that opposing teams "convert" the TOs better against us then we do against them. When we cough up the balls, we then don't play as good d in transition, this may mean that Bama got easier transition baskets. Not by a lot, but enough to gain an advantage. Part of this is, when you have longer athletic, quick guards like Bama, you have an advantage against D.Mitch, GTemple and Tas (this changes in a big way next year with Mason and Martin added to our line up). I think ALSO (and I've made this point before), it's huge when you can go the bench and bring in fire power. We gave up 18 points to Bama's bench, and that's an issue. Overall, they only played 8 deep like us, but they're spreading the minutes a little bit more to the bench guys.

Overall though, we play a very tight game, against a team that most folks predicted would be as good or better than LSU in the west. There were probably some mental and coaching breakdowns, but heck, that's in every game--you probably sum this game up to they get to play us on their home court and played us very hard. I trust the staff to go back and watch the tape and get the team better.

LSUGolfer probably needs to rewatch the last time we played 'Bama and beat them by 11. I suppose, Brady just was lucky in that game and didn't outcoach Gottfried...:hihi: I can't remember if he posted after that game or not...:geauxtige
