whenever i think of nielsen I think of how much of this is controlled by corporate dollars given the fact ratings are a networks lifeblood and its something no one really knows how it works specifically. sure we hear how it works or hear ppl involved but its pretty fishy to me. i think it could be a conspiracy i'd buy into existing until i learn more.
This is true, but it is increasingly less important. With digital cable, and satellite users who have their phone line plugged in, those providers can tell what you are watching. I was once a 'potential' Nielsen user...they make you fill out a weeklong 'blog' type of sheet to get a feel for if you would be a Nielsen watcher. I failed of course...but increasingly cable ratings are based on digital cable and satellite boxes.
and given the fact your average male watches 20 things per hour makes me wonder how accurate this is.
I like your avitar...we need more cowbell! The Nielson Ratings Company had an office(main one?) in Dunedin, Florida (by Tampa/Clearwater. They employed a lot of people that I knew. That's all I know on that subject, which is not much and I should not have posted, but wanted to say.....we need more cowbell! Dink, Dink, Dink!
I had something mailed to me from Neilsen about 3 years ago, asking me to fill out a sheet with what channels I watched and for how long. I did it for a couple of days and then never sent it in.
