true but what you cannot block more rushers if you have fewer than they rush. That is because we have yet to prove we have any confidence in our vertical passing game and also failure of both QB's to read the hot routes when they do blitz. We aren't quite sure if Randall can read the hot route since he's not allowed to throw. so its a catch-22....until we develop a consistent passing game on any level---albeit screens or fly patterns---then our run game will suffer. If Nick Saban cannot run...then he cannot run his planned attack and we fail. screens and draws would be a nice start but both qbs need to show the ability to read and complete it. how many times did Matt Mauck not complete that bubble screen all last year? you could count on one hand. Maybe he didnt have skills that jumped off the screen but its obvious he had much more than we all know or thought or could ever see. Shows what we know when it comes down to it. bottom line...its someone to step up or we are in for another long saturday.
If you notice I qualified my statement by saying "Randall can’t consistently pass the ball downfield." In the Auburn game, Randall’s first drive was scripted and was very effective since he led LSU to a score. Once Auburn adjusted defensively, which they did before the end of the second drive by Russell, Randall was rendered totally ineffective for the remainder of the game, and he didn’t have the capability to overcome those defensive adjustments. LSU’s offensive game plans this year have been hampered by the limitations of Randall and the two-quarterback experiment, which has proven to be an utter failure by virtue of our record.
If that's the case, all the more reason to make Russell the permanent starter for the rest of the year. Every snap Russell takes paints a clearer picture for Saban to consider. Either (a) Russell does not look to be improving markedly in his decision-making and he needs to work Flynn more into the mix down the stretch this season or (b) Russell starts to "get" it, and Saban works in Flynn when and where he can the rest of the season. That leaves Marcus Randall plenty of time to start looking at agents and working on his 40 time in preparation for his new Arena Football career in 2005.
Tirk, I think you've found a "Brett-proof" picture after all. If anyone complains about the new pic, say, "What, you hate America or something, pal?" :usaflagwa
Where have you heard about JaMarcus' lack of work ethic??? I've got a couple of friends on the team and nobody has ever told me that JaMarcus doesn't work hard to get better, and I talk to these friends about practices and other things that go on through the week quite often.
I've really become convinced that Russell needs to start after beginning the year supporting Randall but this quote from Saban pretty much says it all.
maybe they aren't telling you everything? I got it from a good source. nuff said. make your own opinion. later
Take out the scrimmages against Arkansas State and Mississippi State and here are their stats: Jamarcus Russell: 26/62, 42%, 299 yards, 11.5 YPC, 3 TD's, 1 INT Marcus Randall: 21/40, 53%, 227 yards, 10.8 YPC, 2 TD's, 1 INT The completion percentage is the only thing that MR has the advantage in, but JR's % was killed by the Oregon State game where you have to give him credit for leading us from behind to victory. But in watching those three games it is pretty obvious that when JR is in the game the offense moves the ball better. We run better and there is more of a threat passing the ball, if I were the coach, that would be enough for me to start JR (and I'm not even factoring in that Russell is going to be the QB for another 3 years and needs the experience). But, I'm not the coach, and I'll trust CNS and whoever he puts in there.
