also being happy and having a successful season relatively speaking is not the same for all. Im sure 9-2 would make me happy and I could also be content with 8-3. depends how it plays out. i could be really happy with 8-3 if we played lights out, coached like muthas yet didnt get the breaks. if we look like crap and go 9-2, lead the league in penalties and turnovers, yardage allowed, itd be bitter-sweet.
It is very easy to say that you will be happy with an 8-3 record....but will you really after having lost 3 games? This board went on meltdown after the UT loss. Imagine two more and I can't imagine many accepting 3 losses within a year. Reminds me of Bama fans two years ago who said numerous times how they didn't mind giving Shula 1-2 years but in reality those losing seasons put him on the hotseat.
Marine, that's some picture... notice the brickwork on the fireplace? Anything short of a BSC bowl will be a downer for you guys.
That is the difference between you and I b/c that would be a huge disapointment if we go 8-3. This team should not lose here on out but I understand this is the sec and would saywe could lose to either florida, bama, or auburn, but 8-3 would be a huge disappointment in my book. Based on the status of our program, we should not avg to more than 2 losses a year. With that said, I want to compete with USC, and Texas every year and I am not sorry for having those expectations.
What status? Apparently you have never sat through six straight losing seasons in Tiger Stadium. You have never sat through a 3-8 LSU season, either. It was only six years ago. I have. A lot of us have. Sure you can have expectations of 11-0 every year, but they are unrealistic expectations. If you watch this here game for three decades or so you learn the difference between reality and fantasy. Bama thought they were invincible during the Bear, they later learned otherwise. Florida thought they were invincible during Spurrier, they learned otherwise, too. LSU is going to have more 10-win seasons and more championships, but they are also going to have 8-3 seasons. To deny this is to deny reality. There ain't a team on the planet that would satisfy your criteria. Including USC and Texas.
ask nebraska. what you think its like to be a big red fan nowadays? talk about from the penthouse to the outhouse overnight. LSU needs to schedule these boys soon. we got some serious payback in store.
Like O'Reilly, I will try to make this pithy. First, I did witness first hand the 6 losing seasons and they were not fun so apparently you are wrong. As for as expectations, I never did say we need to go 11-0 every year, but my expectations would be like a like a mich, usc, florida state, or a texas. If you look at all these programs they are all top ten programs over the course of time. Of course they all have bad seasons some more than others but from a national perspective they are all better programs than LSU. Saban proved a lot of things around here just like Spurrier did at Florida and that is with the right coach you can produce a consistent top ten seasons. That is what I expect not 11-0 seasons. as for as bama goes, let's remember they had some probations to go through and did in fact win the 92 title, and had its troubles, but it looks like they are making a move back as a top ten program. Bama can do it b/c of its history and status of program. The jury is still kinda out on miles, but I think after this week, we we have a good idea of the fate of this program. Unlike yourself, I want play in the SECCG every year in position to play for a possible national title. Saban proved you can do it here. I am not sorry for for expecting LSU to be a top ten program. Miles still has a lot to prove.
I think we can be a top 10 program in moist years with a blip now and then like last year where we finish out of the top 10, That is possible IMO. But it will be very hard to do in the SEC West with Bama becoming strong again and Auburn being a top notch program in addition to having to play the east teams we face. A minimum of 2 loses every year is unrealistic I believe. Last year proved how volatile it is in the SEC and if we are to keep playing at least one pretty good non conference team it will be that much hard. Also playing 12 regular season games every year is going to make another loss much more probable.
