Yea, that was a sad story, as I recall. He got out from under their thumb and into some trouble, if I recall correctly. A bit similar to Josh Hamilton (in MLB, Devil Rays stud draftee) and both are disappointing situations.
I think he got into drugs and then blamed it all on his dad for pushing to hard. I'm pretty sure that he played college ball at Southern Cal and then got drafted by the Raiders.
Yea, he definitely went to the Raiders and I thought it was a drug issue. I compare him to Josh Hamilton b/c he seriously went off the deep end after getting the least little bit of freedom from his parents. The kid could freaking play, according to scouts, and he just blew it. Apparently, he's working to return. NEvertheless, these stories just suck. Hate wasted talent.
Not to hijack this thread, but the reminder of Josh Hamilton made me see where he's at these days. Looks like he'll always struggle, but may be on the right road: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...ing_training/2005/03/06/hamilton.comeback.ap/
With Marinovich I'm pretty sure it was just his dad. I think the mother divorced the dad fairly early on. He was the nut case.
