No real shock... Mondo goes pro in order to prep for the world championship and Olympics.

if he is stayin in school, then presumably he will train on campus, like lolo jones.

its too bad he cant pop the pole out for LSU and mangle fools for championships just because he needs to get paid. stupid NCAA

if here were an engineer he could work part time and get paid well during school. its dumb some folks can get paid for their future profession while in school and others cant.

I wouldn't think that would necessarily be to his advantage. Lolo Jones came to LSU and her talents were further developed tby the coaching staff. Mondo arrived on campus already a world class vaulter. he LSU track athletes have a long record of success, probably due to the coaches being good at training people how to run faster. I doubt if there is any coach who knows more about the pole than Mondo already does. He will probably hire his own coach and since professional track is a lot bigger in Europe than it is here there is a good chance he will choose to do most of his training overseas.

    originally this said:

"The best step for me next is to pursue a professional sponsorship, which is why I will be foregoing my remaining eligibility to turn pro.
That’s why I’m writing this letter. Not to say goodbye. I’ll continue taking classes at LSU. I’ve been a Tiger my whole life, and I’ll be a Tiger for the rest of it, too.
I’m writing to say thank you. "

i guess he changed his mind and removed that part

Hes been competing overseas professionally for years i thought. For Sweden* wasn't it. Track and field are treated like rock stars overseas. He looked bored here.
