I guarentee you that Leinhert's name is already on the trophy. As much ass kissing that boy received this past year, he is definitly going to receive the trophy.

what about...

Vince Young, Texas
David Greene, Georgia (i know, i know, but he will be a front runner)
Justin Vincent, LSU (maybe not a frontrunner, but by midseason yes)
Cedric Benson, Texas (due for a huge season with Roy Williams gone)

just some new names to ponder.

Before someone starts shouting for an LSU heisman candidate...

Nick Saban does not want, and will not allow, all the Heisman coverage to take away from what he preaches to his team. It takes more than impressive stats to win the award. It also takes a big effort from the Sports Information Department to make it happen. Saban would put an end to that, before it even happened. He wants no distractions, whether they are good (Heisman) or bad (criminal activity). Luckily, with the discipline he has instilled, we have not seen those bad distractions.

Individual awards are nice, just ask Oklahoma....but team awards are best! :champs:

We don't have anyone ready to be a Heisman candidate at this time so it will not be a problem. However Saban will not stand in the way of a player with a chance to get such a rare award. You wont see him on TV pushing a candidate but I don't think he would discourage it either if he thought the player deserved it. :geaux: :lsug:

The most coveted individual award in all of life as we know it (save the Nobel Prize) is hardly an unwelcomed distraction. Billy Cannon would not be as well known having not won the Heisman. You are correct that Saban demands focus and eliminates distraction, but if the media and fans start pulling an LSU player into the Heisman mix, Saban will not pull against them in any way, shape or form.

Screw the Heisman! The Heisman just might have a curse on it.

Billy Cannon - Did prison time for counterfeiting
O.J. Simpson - Killer
Charlie Ward - Not drafted
Andre Ware - Lackluster NFL career
Eric Crouch - Has quit 2 NFL teams without ever playing a down
Gino Torreta - What ever happened to him?
Ron Dayne - Sputtering so far with the Giants
Chris Weinke - Benched by Carolina
Danny Weurfel - Mediocre in NFL
Charles White - Heavy drug abuse
John Huarte - Drafted as a backup to Joe Namath
Ernie Davis - Died of leukemia at a young age
Nile Kinnick - Killed in WWII
Jay Berwanger - Commited suicide
Rashaan Salaam - Injuries prevented him from showing his stuff
Jason White - Used and abused by LSU defense
Ricky Williams - Drafted by the Aints

Ok, before I get labeled a Saban or Heisman-hater, my earlier post did not sound the way I hoped...

I don't think Saban would would be upset if one of his players was in the running. I just don't think he would allow that to be a distraction to his team. Nor, would he allow it (the distraction) to be an excuse for poor play on the field.

Bengal B, how can you say Danny Wuerfeul was mediocre in the NFL?? The guy barely had a career.
