The same thing goes for tOSU. Ohio State is simply ranked #1 to HYPE the re-match with Texas. Nothing more and nothing less. If this game didn't exist, Ohio State would legitimately be about #7 in the polls.
It crossed my mind to say now how in the hell does he know that? But then I thought what the hell, just let it pass.
Cowherd is a huge college football fan. He know whats up. I like espn but they are all about usc and nd. It get old them talking about the same damn teams all the time. Im so glad cal and miami lost, nice picks herbie and corso:geauxtige :crystal:
Of course, my favorite alltime preseason miss...Auburn in' 03. D'oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing like scoring a total of 3 points in your first 2 games. At home no less.
I'm sure glad I don't have to make a National Championship prediction on national TV, especially before the season starts.
Just goes to show you how wide-open the NC is this year. With all the major programs that lost so much talent, you can make a legimate case for many more teams than a more top-heavy year. I mean, tOSU is ranked No. 1 and they lost, what, NINE players on defense?! USC lost 91% of it's offensive production, yet many swear they'll be back in the NC game. UT starts a freshman at QB, yet I've even heard them as a lock for Glendale. With Michael Buch going down, WVU has as good a chance as anybody to end up in the NC game.
You may be onto something. The latest polls have media-darling ND dropping and UT moving into the No. 2 spot.
My guess would be tOSU got the #1 ranking based partially on their offensive returning fire power, their stomping of ND in their bowl, and perhaps having a few less question marks than either Texas (VY) or USC (most of the offense). I would also think that if ND had put a pounding on GT, Texas would have had much more trouble getting the week 2 votes. I like the fact that we get to see an early version of #1 versus #2. However, if the media was "in cohoots", as suggested, they would have voted Texas #2 to begin with, so they could be #2 for the tOSU game regardless of what ND did. tOSU may not be #1 after Saturday, but to state as fact ("Nothing more, nothing less") that the ONLY reason they were ranked #1 is because they have Texas on their schedule is pure speculation, not fact.:yelwink2:
