What is more-or-less accepted as fact in 'The Hills' is that HDN wanted Wittke to be OC and JFB said no. Whereupon Nutt fired him, causing the flap you see today with Mitch M.

In addition, it is thought by many that HDN offered Guss the WR coaching position to mend fences and he turned it down.

Again, it is speculated that JFB stepped in and pushed Gus as OC and we may yet see peace return to the Hog Nation. Granted, it is a leap of faith to expect a high school coach do well in the SEC, but it was risk worth taking by many to see Mitch (and perhaps friends) make the short drive to Fayetteville.

And yes, it will be a step up from Nutt calling the plays.

Is is really that hard to be an OC in the SEC. Let's see. Ok we'll take our own OC Mr. Jimbo Fisher.

1st Down-----run it up the middle

    2nd Down----Pass

3rd and Long------run it up the middle.

    4th down------punt

Hell I believe the Arkansas HS Coach can handle it:thumb:

If he can get the Razorbacks to play like he did Springdale..............they dominated Evangel and Jenks this year. The 35 they scored on Evangel was the lowest output of the season for them. I know it's apples and oranges to compare high school to college, especially SEC football, but stranger things have happened. Besides, what does Arkansas have to lose? Things can't get much worse and they will have a top notch qb.

I'm with you on this. They have to start somewhere, and they usually start coaching high school.

LSU should be on the lookout for great HS head coaching talent in case we need a position coach or coordinator sometime in the future. If a HS coach has intelligence, a great work ethic, great knowledge, and the ability to lead young men, then he has the tools to be a great coach.

I don't know enough about any of LSU's coaching staff to know the extent to which our coaches have these talents/tools, but some of you folks who are close to the program may have an opinion.

Ahh, how short our memories are. Let's see. LSU hires a basketball coach named Press Maravich. End up with the best shooting guard to ever play the game. Name was Pete Maravich. Think there might have been a connection there? Me too!

And if he happens to have a phenomenal athlete that he might be able to help an SEC team recruit - well, that doesn't hurt either. :hihi:
