Highest ranking LSU Basketball will attain this year?

I only compared Stro' to Glen b/c of their "centerpiece" status to the team. I agree that Tyrus has a similar build and playing style to Stro' but I think you've got to look at this team as Big Baby's and DMitch's. Glen is a guy that won't be dunking on everyone like Stro' did, but he'll be looked upon night after night as the down low go to guy... 18 and 10 are reasonable averages for him for the seaon. Tyrus is an exciting guy off the bench who will get a lot of clean up dunks and easier baskets b/c teams are doubling Glen.

This is kind of crazy. To say the Tigers are a top 5 team is ludicrous. As the last poster said, polls this early in basketball are somewhat pointless, other than for the absolute craziest fans who are now already filling out their tourney brackets... Texas has a legit point guard, serious big men (NBA first rounders at that), and all kinds of depth. I agree we beat a common opponent (on their home court no less), but that doesn't make us equals. If this was the case, Kentucky would be ranked #1. Let's not get ahead of ourselves... letting this team think that it's a top 5 team right now would be VERY counterproductive for their development. I'm sure Brady will be having them forget about this win as soon as possible.

I will be curious to see where the Tigers end up in the next polls, however. With a win over Houston, and at 4-0, I think we deserve to be ranked in the top 25, for sure.

You can't judge a team by whether they beat a team and another didn't, or anything of that nature. I doubt Vanderbilt fans are walking around saying that they are a top 5 team because they beat Tennessee and Tennessee beat LSU. That's not the way it works. Right now we are border line top 25. We have talent but not a whole lot of experience. We haven't exactly been the blueprint of talented teams coming together and playing like a single unit either.

I think it's good that expectations aren't all that high. These guys are a blast to watch and I hope we can all appreciate how entertaining this season will be rather than nitpicking about the incredible amount of mistakes and turnovers that are sure to come. I hope we can make the tourny and win a couple of games. If the team comes together, then great. We have enough talent to compete with anyone. Let's just try to keep things in perspective right now. This is not a top 5 team.

 

The football analogy is off base. CBB... If Texas is #2 LSU is top 5 and I stand by that.

Then Texas is not #2. They may be highly overrated... and we will see about that quite soon.

If we beat Houston and UConn... will you change your tune?

I'm all for being positive, but also being realistic. Of course I will change my tune if we beat UCONN and everyone else we play. But we haven't beaten them yet. Who have we beaten? A few glorified high school teams and a West Virginia squad that has lost 3 non conference games in a row for the first time in years.

Don't get me wrong, I've been pleased with the teams performance this year. They couldn't be doing any better. However, you can't go from being ranked in the 30's after coming off of a first round loss in the tourny to UAB and expect to be ranked in the Top 5 just because we beat a team that a Top 5 team also happened to beat. What kind of logic is that? Let's just wait and see with this team and we'll find out a lot in the coming weeks.:thumb:
