More likely, since he is a lawyer and would know better than to do something he could be prosecuted or disbarred for, told H Beast in so many words something like "Before I accept possession of this drive are you absolutely sure it doesn't contain any incriminating emails? I can't legally advise you to delete them but before you give it to me I want you to think about what's on them. See you next week." Then she deleted them herself or told an employee to do it.
She is a lawyer too. I don't know the full extent of attorney-client privilege but it doesn't cover everything. A lawyer is considered to be an officer of the court. If I'm a lawyer and you come to me with a bag you want me to hold and you tell me your wife's head is in the bag I would be legally obligated to give it to the police
