Right, but they also said that he might just have to deal with it. If LSU doesn't pick him up, someone at a smaller school will probably make him a very good offer. Though, I wasn't aware of the no degree -- that might be an issue at lots of places as far as HC goes.

I would think that with his tenure and dedication to the LSU program, its likely he would be kept on the staff. He really is an excellent Asst Coach, and would be an asset to any head coach. I don't think its the same situation as Canaveri, though.

It would be quite a testament to this guy if he continues to coach in the position he seems to like - assistant. This is even more true should the team make it to the final game where, no doubt, the talking heads will tell up his "story". Certainly he would have the opportunity to cash in on this experience with a HC gig somewhere.

If it is his lack of degree that hinders him, there are ample ways he could get something, somewhere. If you are really desperate to get a diploma by any means (legit that is, even if lacking quality), it is not so terribly difficult that it merits having to sacrifice the possibility of being head coach.

i believe that if anyone has already earned the hc position it is starkey, and i would like to see him offered the job before looking elsewhere.

however, if he doesnt want the position, i also hope that whoever gets offered the job has it come with the condition that starkey be retained on staff. i normally doont advocate things like that because i bilieve it should be up to a coach on who their assistants are. but in this case, i think lsu needs to return the loyalty he has shown the program and the team in the past few weeks.

I don't know it it is Starkey or just the maturation of the team but big Syl has developed into a player that I never thought she would be. I'm also seeing the team with an outside game, something we never saw with Pokey.

Why would anyone even mention that in this discussion?

We could get a black female to coach baseball. Couldn't do much worse than Smoke

I think we need to look for a experienced head coach. I remember when we hired Archer after Arnsparger left. It turned out to be a huge mistake. Let's not let a couple of wins distract us from what we are looking for in a coach. Starkey does not want to be HC. Without that desire, no one can succeed,

This is a guy who knows what he wants and there is nothing that will change his mind. Here is some quotes he made today about the job:

The article details the dispute over bonus money that could be owed to Pokey at a max of 200K and a LSU spokesman said they decided before the tourney that all victories would be credited to Starkey, not Pokey.
