Another 4-star commit, Jalen Reece, PG out of Orlando. Ranked as high as 49th in the nation (rivals), and LSU now has the 9th ranked recruiting class in the country (on3).

yep, I did indeed go to the practice. I am also fairly pleased with the recruiting. today LSU claimed they are ranked 2 for the 2025 class. I don't see how that is possible. I guess its very early and the 5 stars have not announced yet. seems like you need some cam thomas or naz Reid type big timers, 5 stars to really stay in the top 10 classes. haven't got that yet but there are good rumors about a fella called chris cenac who is an elite 5 star big man with skills from new orleans.

I went to practice but I had to leave early for personal business, so I missed the end of it, which may have been a pretty sweet scrimmage. here are some random notes.

the big guy called Noah boyde who is 7 feet tall and from a juco and some island, virgin islands or Bahamas or St Lucia or something I cant remember, he looks like a normal athletic person. yunno how many 7 footers look like dudes who don't even like basketball or sports at all but they are 7 footers so they play because their family wants them to? well this guy actually looks like he can run and jump, and that's good news, even if it only means he can play defense. his best case is to be a dunker and rim runner like kavell bigby Williams, who was an integral part of an awesome SEC winning team.

reed is in fact in magnificent shape. he looks like he would be the most dangerous TE in the NFL. very strong. lets hope he learned to move with the ball. I doubt it. coach says he can shoot. I will believe it when I see it.

redshirt corey chest is a monster athlete. and a crazy effort player. cannot shoot from outside. I mean he is awful. in warmups he would slow down, concentrate, take a nice look at the rim, relax, release a shot and CLANK! bad misses. still can find place for a limited player like him in college. he looks like a rebounding monster. i mean he gets after it. gonna need that vs TAMU, the university of rebounding specialists. chest is a comparable player to emmit Williams ,who was a similarly incredible athlete who cant shoot.

the two new guards thatI think will start, carter the shoting guard, and sears the PG, both look very comfortable handling the ball. the stats show that carter is a turnover machine, lets hope he fixed that. but he can score. he isnt necessarily a shooter though. sears, however, he is an excellent shooter. find that guy open for a catch and shoot 3, and he is gonna bury it. like i said before, he is great at most things, but very short. again, in college you can work with these guys with a flaw or deficiency. just do a few things well. and sears, he is the only player last year that:

"only active Division I men’s basketball player to record at least 650 points, 140 rebounds, 140 assists, and 75 three-pointers"

so he does a lot of things well. free throws included. a magnificent option to handle the ball in late game foul-taking situations. he will ice the game with a spectacular free throw %.

the young guard/wing V Miller looks tall. he can shoot. I like him. he is of the master p no limit records Miller family. master p is a sneaky good hooper.

the other young guard PG Curtis givens did not play. he was coming off a wisdom tooth pull. he seems very smart. I think McMahon is recruiting for smarts and court vision.

the big freshman R Miller is very skilled. the word on him was that he was talented but lazy. i watched highlights and he did look a bit bored in high school. but now he looks pretty fired up. he can shoot. lets hope he is a naz reid type guy who dunks harder than fuck but also buries triples with ease.

Tyrell ward I am concerned is only a shooter. a very good one, but still fairly limited in ability to create shots and move with the ball.

dji bailey the transfer from richmond, he is exact opposite of ward. all he does is create and move with the ball, but he only shoots layups, very very efficiently. i think he is smart like mwani wilkinson who absolutely refused to take a shot he woudlnt make. bailey drives and makes layups. thats all he does. thats a pretty good skill. very efficient.

so they have some puzzle pieces. shooters who cant drive, drivers who cant shoot, but they can work together and complement each other.

I think many of these young players are better than guys I think will be returning starters based on seniority. we shall see if, for example vyctorious Miller can pass ward in the depth chart (ward has very poor defensive metrics). I think we will see Robert Miller pass all around ok player Derek fountain and start by midseason.

i dont think givens can possibly take the starter role PG from sears, but i think he will be a very good backup and the role is all his next year. he played on the same HS team as duke freshman Cooper flagg, maybe the best HS player since lebron.

SEC journalists project LSU to be 3rd from last in the SEC, with only OK and vandy trailing. they are way way better than that. but the SEC is crazy they have like a billion squads in the preseason top 25. bama and auburn are final four elite level teams.

it will take a minute to get used to the new schedule format with the new SEC.I think they play every team once, and just a handful of teams twice or something. the league is massive now!

LSU got beat handily by GA tech in the "secret" scrimmage.

not sure what to make of that. its like preseason or spring training. the scores don't mean anything. they are not necessarily trying to win but instead trying rotations and schemes.

I am concerned offense might be an issue. cam Carter and DJI bailey cannot shoot. neither can Jalen reed. Tyrell ward is a spot up shooter with limitations. I hope they can figure a way to score.

I think they might be pretty good on defense.

i went to the exhibition game vs loyola. loyola is truly terrible.

Collins is very exciting. he is one the highest altitude players I have ever seen. massive wingspan. massive leaping ability. he may lead the conference in blocks if he plays a lot. he potentially could be the most savage chase-down blocker ever, because he is a lightning fast and his arms reach to Hammond. if you are on a fast break and he is on the court, you better run because if he is even nearby he will pin your shot on the glass.

2 players have very limited shooting ability. chest, who is awful, bailey, who has a terrible motion and release. but bailey can drive and dish and finish really well. he is also a steal monster and effort defender.

chest cannot shoot but he can dunk hard as fuck and rebound like a maniac.

    startin lineup was

sears. he can really shoot it. he is a sniper and will sink the open 3 beautifully.
carter, he is an all round good player but tends to turn it over
bailey, like i said he takes the rock to the rack, steals the ball, and dishes it well down low. he cant shoot. i mean he looks like an idiot with a stupid motion from deep.
reed, still cant finish well, but is a physical beast
robert miller, looks pretty good. i didnt expect the freshman big to start, but i think fountain was injured.

when R miller and collins are on the floor they are initimidating for those who like to drive to the hoop.

V miller the son of silk da shocker and nephew of master P, he looks solid.

mike williams is a reliable all round talent who does most things well.

curtis givens looks athletic and smart. PG of the future.

Hoping that was more of a reflection of how good LSU will be. My alma mater won the Division II national championship two years ago. Hate to think they've sunk to "truly terrible" in two seasons.

fair point I should say that loyola is "relatively" terrible. they had one point for a long time, I think it was like 18-1 or something before loyala scored their second point.

nothing would please me than loyola is actually awesome and was only made to look like utter shit by the monsters of LSU.

often when a lower tier level team comes in, you look at them, and they are big, and they are throwing down big jams in warmups and I imagine they must be ok, but LSU runs them out the gym because these lower level team like southeastern or UL Monroe have players with like 1 talent and like 3 or four horrific flaws. like they are huge, but cant dribble or shoot or pass. or they are a great shooter but are 5'8 and slow like molasses.

one thing I always enjoy is these small in-state teams always have like one Serbian guy (Loyola did) or one guy from Africa who is not very good but has a real physical presence and I guess they are getting a free education in the US because they are 7 feet tall or whatever. I always wonder what its like to, for example, come from Croatia and move to Hammond on basketball scholarship at southeastern. must be a wild culture shock. I wonder if they get a lot of pussy, and if they like our culture here. I hope they are crushing boudin and abita amber on the weekends and enjoying it here.

What’s your take on the 7’ 9” Canadian who is going to Fla.? With a size 20 shoe, he will have the coeds lining up.

I was talking about foreigners that come here from europe and Africa. like one time I saw the German big guy that plays for southeastern at a baseball game, LSU vs SE in Hammond. and they have an army of hot girls in boots and cutoff jeans over there at southeastern. he appearred to be doing well socially. for a german 7 footer i would imagine its pretty nice. ladies love interesting foreigners.

the florida guy is canadian. thats just america north, i would think you get more pussy if you are from croatia or something and have an accent.

when I was a kid LSU had Roman roubchenko from Ukraine, I remember women loved that guy. that must be a great 4 years, leave some shit post communist country in Europe for baton rouge party time.

but on basketball merit I dunno that these absurdly big bigs are verry useful. last year ole miss had a guy who was 7'5, he was shit. I think this Florida guy is crap as well
