Regarding Redshirts and Medical Reshirt/hardship All players have 5 years to play 4. You can only apply and receive a Medical Redshirt if you have a season ending injury within the 1st 3 games of an 11 game season (20% of the total games of a season, not total plays, as TE suggested). However, if a player has already had a Redshirt year (non-medical) the NCAA will not grant a second Redshirt even if the player meets the criteria for a Medical Redshirt. You can read the link that TE provided earlier for examples of this. The application will be denied because it was within the Institutions/players control that the player did not play his 1st year. On the other hand if the player had been granted a Medical Redshirt his 1st year and gotten hurt again in another season and met the Medical Redshirt criteria, the NCAA would grant another Medical Redshirt because these 2 yrs, in which the player was injured, would have been out of the Institutions/Players control. which is why you will sometimes see a player with a 5th or 6th year of eligibility. As far as how many plays you are allowed and still be Redshirted -Zero. One play = no Redshirt, unless applying for a Medical Redshirt. Hope I didn't confuse anybody.
Here's my take. I think Randall has all of the tools to become a very good qb. I think he is one that just needs more time than other qb to develop. Kids develop at different times. The kid has a great arm and runs very well. He just needs more time to develop better decision making and reading defenses. He has shown to me that he has all of the tools. Don't forget about Rohan Davey his junior and earlier years. It wasn't until has senior year that he developed into a solid qb. Lots of fans didn't like Rohan; didn't have the confidence that he could lead the team. But Rohan proved to a lot of people his senior year that he just needed the playing time and experience to develop his skills. I think the same goes for Randall. He has not played enough to really develop into the player that he could be. Us fans need to be patient and watch out for the immediate gratification syndrome. It could be that Randall may end up being an average qb. Only time will tell.
I do not agree with that at all. That's saying if the defense dominates and Randall plays poorly but we keep winning 10-3 games, then Randall will be fine. Uh.....no. If he does not perform well enough by the time the Auburn games comes around, then Russell will be starting that game. It's what I have predicted up til now, and I am sticking with it. LSU will win the first 3 games no matter how poorly Randall plays.
If Randall can accurately throw the mid to deep ball, and the "D" holds tight, we'll be OK. MR is a athlete, if he can keep opposing teams from loading up the box we;ll do jus fine.
Im with DHead on this...who brought this ole worn out topic back to the top? BTW...Im one of those who doesnt want to see Russell in there. That will mean things are going bad for Randall and I want him to succeed...BIG TIME! I wont be calling for Russell either even if Randall is a little shaky. IMHO, a slightly shaky Randall gives us a better chance to win then a green horn like JR. I want JR to get his experience the best way possible...gradually...slowly...breaking him in during mop up duty. Then next year he can go gang busters! (or Flynn)
Did you get to see Brock play in HS? That dude was amazing! I don't know what happened to him in college, but in HS, he was very good.
