to get the black athlete. Pretty blunt statement. I wonder if he got jealous when he seen them Jawja afletes tests last month.  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/football/ncaa/03/31/hornung.comments.ap/index.html
He should have just said lower their standards and left out specifics as to why. God knows they could use to "average white boys" too.
This guy is an idiot. He was way out of line. Right now Notre Dame standards are high and most of their football players are black. He was factually wrong. He was saying blacks are dumb and whites shouldn't play football. Ludicrous
If he had phrased it differently he would be a hero instead of the goat. If he had said that Notre Dame needs to show more cultural diversity by reaching out to minority athletes or some other PC crap the media would be taking him seriously.
The thing is by next year 55% of Notre Dame's football players will be black and they haven't lowered their standards, so blacks are having no problem meeting academic standards. Even with all those black players, they're still sorry. So, he's wrong. IMO people who talk of PC usually are hiding behind prejudicial statements.
He wasn't saying "Notre Dame has no black players." He was saying: "Notre Dame's standards are disallowing the more talented black players that usually tend to be less educated." Not trying to sound racist, but its true...It is hard to field a good team because the more talented football players tend to do worse in high school and that includes blacks and whites. Had he just said "players in general," he wouldn't be in trouble. But he mentioned African Americans by name which, of course, is a politically suicidal move...I'm sure Al Franken will be all over him in his new book: "Fighting back against right wing former football players."
Are you serious? Paul Hornung a white Heisman trophy winner and Pro football Hall of Fame member is saying whites shouldn't play football? Talk about twisting someones words. What he said may have been politically incorrect(probably) and factually wrong(possibly) :geaux: :lsug: but don't put words in his mouth that he did not say.
Exactly right!!!!!! Remember what Jimmy the Greek said years ago to a reporter while he sat drunk at a bar? It ended what had been a pretty good career and now years later what he said is accepted as fact and repeated by sports writers and jounalist everywhere as fact. Hornung could have used much better judgement and much better wording but don't write him off as Adolf Hitler reborn just yet, :geaux: give him a chance to explain and dig himself out of a hole or dig it deeper.
