Again, past five years. Past seven years (or however long Maineri has been here). Making it to the NC last year feels like the anomaly, dragging ass like this year feels closer to the norm.
Pre Paul LSU also demonstrated to the rest of the college world that college baseball is a marketable sport. There were about a half dozen programs comparable to LSU when Skip was here. There are that many in the SEC alone now, because they're all following Skip's blueprint.
Because it ain’t fucking easy. Like literally. Imagine Tulane making it to the NCAA playoffs. Zero chance right? Happens every year in Baseball.
Ok, I did a conclusive study during my daughter's swim team practice. I awarded points as follows: -5 no postseason +1 regional appearance +3 super-regional appearance +5 omaha appearance +7 runner-up +10 nc I used the ten teams one of the major publications (can't remember which) said were the top programs. For the past 5 seasons: 1. Vandy - 26pts 2. Florida - 22pts 3-tie. LSU - 21pts 3-tie. Louisville - 21pts 5. Virginia - 16pts 6. TCU - 15pts 7. Oregon St - 7pts 8. UCLA - 2pts 9-tie. S Carolina - -3pts 9-tie. N Carolina - -3pts For the past 10 seasons: 1. Florida - 43pts 2. Vandy - 37pts 3. TCU - 28pts 4. S Carolina - 26pts 5. Virginia - 25pts 6. Louisville - 22pts 7. LSU - 19pts 8. N Carolina - 14pts 9. UCLA - 11pts 10. Oregon St - 8pts I'm not a huge baseball fan, so maybe there are a few other teams that might sneak into the conversation? Still, I find the results interesting. Maineri actually has the program on the upswing the past 5 years relative to the past 10, with more consistency. He also helms a top five team, which is pretty good. This year, which looked like it might be another drought, has turned into a net positive by making a regional. So I guess he ain't no Skip, but he's still pretty good. Vandy and Florida have passed us, though, which is a little inexcusable. So maybe some creedance to the Les Miles of baseball posited by someone else earlier.
Ain't nobody no Skip. Vandy is still very good but their program hasn't followed up their CWS win. Since then they have taken a slight downturn, Florida has been one of the nations top teams year after year for years but they had never won at Omaha until last season and maybe they wouldn't have if Eric Walker hadn't gotten injured. CPM signed a crew of pitchers who looked promising to become the next batch of Nolas and Langes and company. Most of them got injured sometime before or during the season and Walker had Tommy John surgery and was out for the year. Josh Smith was one of the top shortstops in college baseball. He played in 6 games this season due to injury. If everybody returns healthy next season we will have one of the better pitching staffs in the country and hopefully Hess can go back to the closer role.
How do we have less points in 10 years than in 5? Makes no sense. Points should and would increase. He had a title in 2009.
You don't have to do analytics to know he's a top baseball coach. I don't love him but he's about the best you can get. Did you read that article on vandis recruiting advantage. The names change who is best but lsu is always in the conversation. Credence
