dude what part of 4 star is very good do you not understand? If you wanna go by rivals the last 4 years something like 80% of the players drafted in the first round were 4 star or 5 star players. 90 something % were 5, 4, or 3 star players. they do a great job and the examples you posted further prove that point. Your so blinded by your hate for rivals you fail to see this.
Those stars are for what they did in high school, so how do you figure they F'ed up? If the player decides to step up his game in college, Rivals and Scout can't take back the stars that were given coming out of high school.
Well, the stars are supposed to be a prediction of how they will perform in college. Most of that is based on what they did in high school, but that isn't really what the stars are rating.
Would it be safe to surmise, in looking at star ratings, that a 4 or 5 star rating indicates much athleticism at a given position but does not, necessarily, exclude 2's or 3's from achieving the same?? Factor in hype, exposure, etc. and those could attribute to differences as well. There's no perfect system, even standarized tests have a "Standard error of measurement"- the "Score" you receive could be actually be "Higher" or "Lower" than your "True score"......if I remember correctly from my stats class YEARS ago.
If a recruit gets a scholarship offer from a Div 1 school, he's automatically a 2 star recruit. Usually, nobody knows about these guys. They may do well in HS, but lack the measurables, don't get much interest from other colleges etc. It isn't saying that they can't become good players, just that they aren't expected to. Hester was a 2 star player. If you are getting a 2 star player, you are basically trusting that your coaches see something that nobody else did. This is from Rivals: This is a 5 star prospect, like Joe McKnight, Chad Jones, and Terrance Toliver. 4 star players. 3 star guys. 2 stars.
Additional point. Ratings are also given based on a player's projected position. Many players particularly linemen change between high school and the end of their college career. I know that some of the folks doing the ratings, at least on Scout, also take into account the level of competiton the player faces in high school.
Very true and funny you say that, my initial statement said "Athleticism" but I added "At a given position" before posting. :thumb:
Thanks you C, so a 5 star is for the nation's top 25. So why in hell are the top 10 players in the draft mostly 4 star players???
When you basically hundreds of more 4 stars to work with, the odds are pretty good of that happening. Its science.
