Yep, 292 is what he did weigh in at the combine. I thought he said 272. My miss. I did talk with a draft guy last night, the NFL/Players have lots of things on hold. We did talk about the FA group (Terrence Toliver and a few more names came up), he was saying that teams are set on go to offer once this thing is cleared. LSU has another former player that will come into play, but the info will be released after all this has cleared. We'll see in August the weights of players. As for the Freshmen, I was talking with a college coach about this. Many kids come from one parent homes, many don't have a diet to follow (Three or more meals a day), this along with the workouts changes them in a matter of months. This is why schools like to have them in as soon as high school is over. Moffitt starts to come into play here. The S&C Coach with Jimbo at Fla. St. trained under Moffitt.
Remember the 300#'ers were to be Davenport, Brockers, Copeland and Hicks(Yea, I know). Remember Blackwell came in as a DL. LSU/Chief has done well with LB'ers and the DB's, getting them used on Special Teams, getting use to game action and the crowd. Last year we lost Coleman, Riley and Cutrera, wasn't much of a drop. The stats on Baker was 17 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass broken up in his 2009 season. This past years Bakers stats: Second in tackles to Shepps 87, led the team in sacks with 7, second on the team in Tackles for loss with 4, 1 pass broken up and 1 QB hurry. The stats for Barrow and Minter are close to what Baker had in his 2009 season. As with any DC, you want your best 11 players on the field, 13 if you play at Tenn...........sorry, just couldn't help myself. Last year we lost Riley, Coleman, Cutrera, Jones, McCray, Hawkins, Alem, Alexander and Woods. With only 4 starters returning we still won 11 games. This defense is getting back to the Bo numbers.
right, all Im saying is we cant always say we are better each year when its likely we aren't. when we lose key guys-- PP, Shep and Nevis-- they were the three leaders at their positions on defense. optimism is cool but until these guys are replaced, Im going to assume they aren't. they need to prove it. and how is it outside of Shepp our last great linebacker was michael brooks (sorry trev and bradie). its been going on so long we almost go into every season like our LBers are just role players. what the hell is going on. DT's are a question mark as is the DL imo.
And this could hurt the Ducks. The returning O line reserves have plenty of experiance, and we have good depth there as well, but it is a new offensive line. Oregon has a great line coach, but it's going to take a while to gel, and get up to speed. We need our running game to be effective, in order to have a good chance against the Tigers. The Duck's have tremendous receiver talent coming in as freshmen, and a few other proven receivers as well. But, our main 'go to' guy, has graduated. I don't think were ready in the receiver department either. I'd feel a lot better if we played you guys the third game of the season, instead of the first.
I was thinking when we get back in our own conference Red. Although come to think of it most of the heavy hitters will be young too this year.
Oregon returns 3 starters: RT -- 5th year senior Mark Asper (6-7, 325 lbs), 27 career starts (started 11 of 13 games in 2010) RG -- C -- LG -- redshirt junior Carson York (6-5, 286 lbs), 22 career starts (started 10 of 13 games in 2010) LT -- 5th year senior Darrion Weems (6-5, 292 lbs) -- 25 career appearances (started 7 of 13 games in 2010) at the RG spot, it's projected to be a battle between Clanton and Golpashin, but they have three experienced options that will provide them with depth across the line: *redshirt junior Nick Cody (6-5, 296 lbs) -- 20 career appearances *5th year senior Ramsen Golpashin (6-4, 275 lbs) -- 16 career appearances *redshirt sophomore Mana Greig (5'11, 291) -- 7 appearances in 2010 *redshirt sophomore Everett Benyard (6-7, 325 lbs) -- 1 appearance *junior Ryan Clanton (6-4, 294 lbs) -- JUCO All-American in 2009, Scout #7 JUCO OT, Rivals Top 50 overall JUCO (#31) the only question mark on Oregon's OL is going to be center, where they lost both the #1 and the #2 center from the 2010 squad. their replacements are projected to be two guys with minimal experience: *redshirt freshman Hroniss Grasu (6-3, 278-pound) -- Scout #9 center, Rivals #12 center *redshirt sophomore Karrington Armstrong (6-2, 260) -- 1 career appearance if neither of those guys work out, they can move Mana Greig over to center (he was projected to play center in college by both Scout and ESPN recruiting) or someone else that can play center
I think Bradie has led the Cowboys in tackles for the last 5 or 6 years running. For last year we lost the # 2,3,4,5,8,9,11,12 and 14th tacklers. The Sack leader and Qb hurries(Alem), the leader in INT's. (Chad Jones), the forced fumble leader (Coleman) and the fumble recovered (McCray). We only returned 4 starters and played a bunch of RSF and True Freshmen.
From a Eugene Register Guard article. (May 15 2011) "Former Oregon offensive lineman Hamani Stevens, who left the program to take a church mission after redshirting in 2008, intends to return to the Ducks this summer. Stevens, the No. 2 recruit in the nation at center the year he signed his letter of intent, returned.... from a mission spent primarily in the Philippines.... ....If he can get himself in adequate shape by the start of fall camp in August, Stevens could give the Ducks a boost at a position that ranks among the team’s biggest question marks following the conclusion of spring drills...... This will make us real solid, eventually, but I doubt he will be ready to help much during the LSU game.
