I grew up in Houston HATING LSU. Funny how things turn out. 1975, freshman year watching ultimate evil (and alma mater of siblings) Texas a$m just drill the Tigers 8-39. Hallman was a walk in the park after that opening act! Best moments, 1982 watch nobody LSU pound #4 Florida in the swamp, watching the bimbos flee at halftime and 1990 win over a$m with the west side upper deck starting that "Pooooor Aggies" chant in the 4th quarter. My brother still gets the reds over that.
Man, I'm just old enough to remember hearing some of John Ferguson before he gave up the mic. You can still hear him by listening to the voice-overs of the Greatest Moments in LSU Sports on the TAF site. Very cool.
I was born in '88, and got my own season ticket in '91, at age 3. I had split the tickets with my mom the previous year, and so when we got the tickets, she asked me what 3 home games I wanted to go to, and I told her I wanted to go to the Florida, Ole Miss, and Alabama game. Needless to say she wasn't too thrilled with that, and since it was during the dark days of LSU football, we were able to find me a seat in our section. I haven't missed a single home game since, and haven't left one early either.
Since the early 60s, when a tackle meant, as John Ferguson put it, he "was bottled up." Finally got in to Tiger Stadium in 1964 or 65, 65 I think. We'd drive 4 hours from North La., stop half way at Lea's for pie, get to campus around 4 pm and tailgate in the area where Bernie Moore is now. Game over, drive 4 hours home.
Not unlike some of you I was thrust into the magical kingdom of Tigah football via my father who graduated from LSU way back in 58. I was born in 60 and can remember listening to the radio as a child with Dad and family EVERY SATURDAY they played!!! Also I remember Dad demolishing the furniture a few times after a couple of games, but all in all a great environment to grow up in( plus Mom was happy cause she could count on new furniture every few years). I attended my first game in Tigah stadium way back in the early 70's when the Ruston Rifle tore MSU a new one and I also watched LSU dispatch a whooping on the Rebs 61 to 17 (anyone remember that one?). The hair on the back of my neck raises every time I think about an evening there. So I suppose that I am an avid fan of the Tigahs for about 40 years. Seeing them bring home the NC in 03 brought tears to my Dads eyes, culminating in the what I would describe the second best day of his life, the first being of course marrying my Mother. Thanx for the memories!!!
took a hiatus from 86 till 97 because i was a musically obsessed musician. after i got tired of that i came back to reality. was a huge tiger fan from 76 till 86, 97 on..... guess that makes it 18 years for me.
The Hodson years were my first memories of being an LSU Tiger fan....but that's as early as I remember (was born in '77 and I have seen photos of myself as a baby decked out in the purple and gold... :thumb
My first LSU shirt could probably fit a hamster its so small. My first memories of attending the games were Alan Risher and Dalton Hilliard/Gary James.
I've been a tiger fan my whole life; however, I grew up on Tiger Baseball. I remember all players, and most games, from '90-today, and after the '96 and '97 seasons, I was an "LSU fan" (in all sports) for life. After '96 is when I started paying serious attention to LSU football, at 12 years old. I remember watching EVERY televised LSU game since 1998. I begged my father to take me to an LSU game, and my first was the game against San Jose State in 1999. I remembered my parents telling me to get ready for the loudest "experience" I'd ever encounter, although it wasn't the loudest (I think the oregon state game from last year was,) I was hyped. Listening to LSU Sports Network "hype up" the game was soooo exciting for me. Remember, for the past couple of seasons I've seen LSU beat top-ranked Florida, and lose "important" games to UGA, UF, UK, Ole Miss, Bama, and Arkansas (all in the dreadful '98 season.) regardless of all that, I loved LSU. In the SJSU game, I was happy just to "finally" be in tiger stadium. Since then, I've been to every home game and a few away games, and I cannot even fathom anyone being a more die-hard LSU fan than I am today. I grew up with kids my age wearing Miami, FSU, UT (texas,) and UNC hats, I was the ONLY kid that wore an LSU cap for the majority of my life. When kids asked why I wore an "LSU hat," I remarked by saying: "LSU represents my state, and I can't explain the pride I feel when I see the LSU helmet on national television." It is still true to this day. The LSU insignia is a symbol that I'll die wearing--in some shape or form. I bleed purple and gold--screw any other schools, LSU is, and will always be "my" school. I ****in' LOVE LSU!!!!! GEAUx ****IN' TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LSU! LSU! LSU! :geauxtige
