"First game that I conciously recall is the Orange Storm in 1982.. i was 4 1/2..." That was my first game. I was in the Boy Scouts then. I was picking up the oranges and reselling them. You would be amazed at what a drunk will pay an orange... twice.
Try this on for size guys: I do the same ritual before EVERY game I go to: And I have been to about 10 the past 2 years: I eat 2 hot dogs, dressed the same way from the same shop, drink a coke, a half a bottle of Tiger water (the other half for halftime), show up to the player walk-out area near the P-Mac an hr and 15 mins before festivities, read my program/listen to radio while doing that... Then while walking to my seat after all that has cleared up, I skip every other step on my way up: Sounds insane, but I am very superstitutious... I was as a player, and now am as a die-hard LSU fan: To comment on what JayB said: I agree 100%. I grew up playing sports my whole life, so I was surrounded by people across the state/Gulf, and you wouldn't believe the large FSU, Miami, UNC, Duke pools out there... I, on the otherhand, are homegrown to the core, and if you not a Tiger, to me, you are TIGER BAIT! Geaux Tigers! :geauxtige
That is dedication! One time we were staying at a campground on a weekend when we played Auburn with a large group of 35-40 ppl. The tv in the camper went out, so my dad packed up the things and paid for a hotel for a night, just to have a tv to watch the game...
Waffle House hamburgers for breakfast for all SEC road games! Been doing that since 1978. I have never met a Duke FOOTBALL fan.
I was talkign all sports: UNC bball has a HUGE fan base here: I ran a March Madness pickem, and 90% of the people picked them to win it, just b/c they were their fav team: In football though, we have a lot of Horns, Canes, Noles, and Gators lurking: I guess all it comes down to is that when we (my generation) were exposed 1st to football, LSU wasn't good, so we (not me) liked other teams. And I know from the NFL with my love for the Ravens that once you like a team, you CANT just 'stop' So that is why: The kids born from 1998-now will be HUGE Tigers though
Started really paying attention when I was 10..... and that was 39 years ago. My first bowl game was the 1966 Cotton Bowl vs. Arkansas. LSU beat the Pigs in an upset and denied them a second straight NC. I was hooked and my wardrobe has leaned toward Purple & Gold ever since.
Re: Started really paying attention when I was 10..... I was born an LSU fan. I've have been going to the games for 26 years now(since I was 3)....My parents brought me to all the home games and most of the away games. I've been a season ticket holder (in my name, not my parents) since 97 and still make a couple road games each year..... My two favorite games..... Auburn earthquake game in 88 and the Florida game in 97.... :geauxtige
That reminds me of a time we were on vacation in tennessee, (around the same time as an LSU-UT game,) and we rented a hotel room JUST to watch the game. Well, me and my father did, my mom and sister went shopping (LOL.)
