Big-time coaches get paid big-time dollars to answers those questions every 10 minutes, no?

If men could operate like that, there'd be more marriages lasting. We never leave unless we're sure we have another one in the wings to go to......bunch a dogs. :hihi:

Conversely, they are paid those big time dollars to work in the football program, not repeatedly answering the same question time and time again.

Has an interim coach ever played for a NC, though? Has a head coach walked away from playing for the title? This situation we could be in is crazy. Miles would be throwing away the chance of playing for a title. That is the surest way of getting the most money out of coaching, not to mention future job choice.

And especially whether their back-ups will see a lot of PT against La. Monroe.

I doubt it and it's sure not the best thing to do. You need to have the same guy that the kids have seen on the sideline all season who got them there. Continuity is not only important in the player line-up, arguably moreso with the coaching staff when we're talking about a head coach, within a season.

Good coaches go through great measures to simulate the game scenario- weekly opponent jersey colors for the scout team, piping in noise, the same coach....... ;)

You put it the best. We all know CLM has roots in Michigan and may take the head coaching job at Michigan. I am hoping as soon as Carr steps down CLM lets us know he plans on taking the Job in Michigan. If it is his plan.

The profession has evolved. A head coach now knows it is more than X's and O's at a big time college. Same goes for the NFL. They aren't just being paid as strategists, but as spokespersons and fundraisers for the University. They take on the surrogate father role for these kids and in turn deal with the media scrutiny. Coaches know this and they are compensated handsomely for it.

    Over and over..

That may seem to be the thing to do, but unfortunately the timing is just bad for LSU, and the team, whether it is done before or after the bowl games

I feel frustrated that the LSU program has to face another one of this coach "moving on" scenario. I guess that is the price of being successful; but I can't help thinking that LSU is kind of like a stepping stone. It is in a way unfair and unfortunate for the team to be subjected to this kind of thing before the end of the season, as this is surely distracting for the team, particularly if it is in the midst of the NC game hunt. This would also affect recruiting to a certain extent.

The best situation is for Miles to be very content with his job here, and decide not to look elsewhere at this point (while in the process of building/perpetuating a dynasty). Anything short of that would be a distraction, IMO.

Not that I want to defend some of his later statements, but Nick Saban tried that at Miami but the media, especially Dan Lebatard, wouldn't take that for an answer. In fact, his "I will not be coach at Alabama" statement was in response to a particular demand by Lebatard to say it. (That led the AMAB to panic and almost hire Rodriguez.) IMO, Lebatard ended up looking as bad as Saban, but he had the microphone, so he was able to set the tone of the coverage.

To get a better situation, the NCAA has to make some changes: 1) schools must not be able to contact a coach or his agent before their season ends (similar to the NFL's anti-tampering rule) and 2) the recruiting schedule has to change to make all of December a dead period and move national signing day to later in the spring, so that new coaches have more time to recruit. These changes could make it possible for schools to wait until after the bowls to hire.

Still, when you lose a coach in November and can't hire until January, the fans are going to panic.

Hopefully, we won't have a problem this year.
