How would you like to see a college football playoff implemented?

What's the best design of a D-1 college playoff system

  1. Scrap bowl games and go with 16 team playoff (4 extra games)

    4 vote(s)
    14.8%
  2. Take the 4 winners of BCS bowl games (2 extra games)

    10 vote(s)
    37.0%
  3. Have a +1 game in the years it's needed (1 extra game)

    11 vote(s)
    40.7%
  4. Controversy is ok. System is fine the way it is

    2 vote(s)
    7.4%

Personally, I would like to see the +1 system implemented. If you have a true 16 team playoff, you may have to cut down on the number of regular season games that are played i.e. the non-conference schedule. If that were to happen, some traditional rivalries games may be scrapped (Fla.-Fla. St. ect.) Of course, this is subjective, but could be the result.

Next best option, IMO, would be to take the 4 winners of BCS bowl games.

I prefer an 8 team playoff, but could live with 4 teams.

Whatever the system, it needs to be sanctioned by the NCAA...

8 team playoff would probably work better than 16 because it would not dramatically increase the number of games played, but you'd probably still have controversy (granted not nearly as much) if you were No. 9.

I am for the 4+1 system where the top 4 BCS teams play in 2 BCS bowl games, and the winners play each other in the NC game.

Not opposed to 8 teams, but I just don't see anyone agreeing to that.

Plus-one model will not work unless it faces No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 in the regular BCS bowls. Take this year. If USC went to Rose, Oklahoma to Fiesta, and Auburn to Sugar and they all won, we'd be right back where we started.

    None of the options listed.

I would like to see a 8 or 16 team playoff that is run by the NCAA, not by big greedy money hungry businesses. Perhaps a selection committee as is done with basketball. I would like for these playoff games to be played in the upper echelon natural bowl games. That way, these bowls do not lose their games. If done properly, they make MORE money.

The rest of the lesser bowls can have their typical meaningless bowl games with the teams that are bowl eligible and did not make the playoffs.

Exactly. It has to be run by the NCAA to eliminate the M in MNC...

It won't ever fly, but can you IMAGINE a 16 team playoff???
(or, at worst, a 12 team playoff with byes for the top 4)

In EVERY OTHER SPORT, you are rewarded for how well you play at the end of a season AND through rounds of playoffs.

    WHY NOT DIVISION 1-A FOOTBALL????

Just think - if that were the case this year we would still be in it!!!!!

The first round could be at each higher ranked team's stadium...

...with the later rounds going to the bowls...

Not far off from the D-II & D-III concepts...

...and the bowls could still make their money as long as they rotated,
not unlike the BCS rotation now...

I LOVE March Madness, but THAT tourney would make MM look like peanuts!!!!

The Plus One model, as far as I am concerned, would involve rotating BCS bowls representing the 2 games in which the #1 plays #4, and #2 plays #3.

There would be no tie-ins like we have now. The winners play each other a week later in another BCS bowl (rotating of course).

The top 10 teams in the BCS standings should represent the 10 teams in the 5 BCS bowls (don't forget we're adding a BCS bowl to the mix). No longer would a conference champ be guaranteed a BCS bowl bid. That's the worst rule of them all, IMO.
