Maybe now some of you guys will quit jumping all over every rumor like it's gospel. I've been checking the forum every half hour for a week. I've learned to spot BS from a mile away. (I still believe in Crawfish, though :grin: )

Sure, just let us know which rumors are appropriate to post. I thought one with a link to a major newspaper was worth a look.

Nick Saban's decision over whether to stay at LSU or become the sixth coach in the Dolphins history became more complicated when LSU upped the ante on what is already the highest paying contract in the college ranks.

According to sources, LSU is offering to raise Saban's contract to nearly $4 million a year. Currently, Saban makes $2.3 million in base pay and will receive approximately $400,000 in incentives for the team making a postseason bowl game.

Saban's base salary increases by $100,000 per year through the 2010 season, when it tops out at $3 million.

On Wednesday, President William Jenkins indicated there was a limit to how much the school would spend. On Thursday, LSU athletics director Skip Bertman denied that the school was upping Saban's deal, which was renegotiated after the 2003 season.

However, a source close to the school's board of supervisors indicated that the board had given Jenkins authority to renegotiate Saban's deal.

I am having trouble buying that, but who knows? LSU can't compete with the Miami Dolphins in terms of funding. I just don't see that. I am not sure any college team can compete with an NFL team. Ok, ok, maybe USC has more money to put up than Tom Benson. I digress! :hihi:

Who in the hell do you think is going to pay for this major and I DO MEAN MAJOR increase in his pay? THE MIGHTY TAF? It will be the season ticket holders. Tell me this, how much does it cost for a pair of season ticket for LSU Football? I can tell you, second row, end zone, lower level at the University of Kentucky runs me about $325/pair. That’s right! I am willing to bet it cost more to have season LSU football tickets than it cost to have UK basketball tickets.

I know business is business…You have to spend money to make money. But do you really feel LSU and the athletic department can really spend this money. Getting too greedy can come back and bite you in the _ _ _!!!

Chew on this, what if they drop the bowl system and they implement the playoff system. Guaranteed money with the SEC will not be there.

Like I said, $2.3 million, a house provided by the TAF (Highland Rds.), Ford Explorers, and other sweet incentives is enough. LSU the institution has way too many problems to worry about instead of getting into a bidding war for Saban to stay in Baton Rouge!

I'll say this on ticket prices. As a season ticket holder and member of TAF the price of tickets and the ability to go with my boys to a football game they feel like watching. PRICELESS. Got It? The players that Saban has brought in are great for being role models to the younger LSU fans. Got It? You guys are washed up on putting a dollar value for what Saban has done SO FAR at LSU.
